hahahah I wonder the same thing.
I have a 7 month old Boxer and he pees the same way. I dont know if he will ever lift his leg. I honestly and glad he doesnt though. I prefer the squat over the lift. It seems so much more polite hahaha. Is there such thing as dog manners?
Dont you just love Boxers!
I dont know if yours is as energetic as mine but good luck. Mine is driving me INSANE lately. He has all of the sudden gotten extremely energetic and mischevious.

My dog (1 yr 1 month now) never lived with a male, and he started lifting his leg about 7 months (at which point, balls off!). He still lifts, but sometimes squats as well.
Has he been showing other signs of puberty (interest in the ladies, cheekiness)? Is he neutered? Maybe he lost his balls before all the hormones had an effect...
Ah well, he can stay mummy's little boy forever then!

Honestly, some dogs just always pee like girls. I have a 9 year old husky who has always done this. He learned from his sisters and it never hurt him at all. If he is in tall grass or something he will pee like a boy, but usually he just squats.
I think he would have to learn it from another male dog but it isn't something that will come with age, he isn't going to turn a certain age and begin to pee like a boy. Sorry, but maybe if it is important to you, he can be trained to pee the "right way." Just make sure to give lots of positive reinforcement.
And remember its much better to have a dog that pees like a girl outside, than one that would pee like a boy in your house. Good Luck with the training :)

Just be glad that your dog is not marking, which is what this behavior is. My male border collie just started to lift his leg. Only, he just lifts it, he doesn't twist his body out, so it's like he's squating, but has one leg in the air... kind of funny. But, he also pees on his own leg. I would rather he would just squat.

I think they learn this behavior by other males. The reason I say this is that I had a four year old male yorkie and when we brought home our female shiba, they went outside together and she lifts her leg when she pees.. too funny!
I think you shouldn't worry about it, what comes naturally will be what he does.

I have 2 male dogs and it took Earl about 2 years to do it consistantly. Rocky is only one and he always squats, unless it's FREEZING and he's in a hurry, for some reason he lifts his leg....

No.. he'll never become human.. thank heavens!!!
Some dogs just never see a need to mark territory (which is what leg lifting is).
Be glad your guy pees all at once in one spot. You're a lot less likely to have to do re-training not to mark in the house...
I cannot tell you the number of idiot male dogs I know who pee on their front leg when they leglift!!!
(I had a b*tch who used to leg lift... gawds I miss her).

alot of times they learn it from another male.
Be glad he doesnt lift his leg.. I prefer a boy who squats.. males who leg lift often end up peeing on things you DONT want them to pee on.. like the side of your house, patio furniture, etc. Its sometimes inconvinient when you are walking your dog to find a suitable verticle object for him to go on!
My boy didnt lift until we visited a friend for a few days.. he learned from my friends dog. My boy will squat if he doesnt have something verticle to pee on.. but he has peed on things that I didnt want peed on!
We have another boy we recently got who thinks he must lift.. I dont like trudging out to the middle of the yard thru the snow, just so he can pee on a tree! The other dogs manage to find a suitable spot up closer to the house.

ur dog will never become a man. lol but it will learn to pee with the leg up eventually. my dog was almost two when he finally just did it one day. and ur dog might learn from other males so show him the way with some manly dog friends. plus it doesn't seem to bother him it shouldn't bother you.

He might not ever hike. My 12 year old beagle has always squatted....Makes it easier when we go on walks because he doesn't want to pee on every other tree.
