Did you leave her outside unattended while she was in heat???? If so, she COULD be!!!! You NEVER NEVER NEVER leave a dog outside unattended while she is in heat. Males have been known to scale HIGH fences to get to one.

See the vet! False pregnancy is also a possibility!

How long has it been since her heat? Dogs are only pregnant for approx. 63 days from the 1st breeding. It can be very hard to tell if a dog is indeed pregnant or if it is a false pregnancy. She wont start to visibly show until about 3 weeks before her due date and if she is only carrying a very small litter she may hardly show until she is in labor. Nipples in a 1st pregnancy generally start to fill out and the hair around them falls out. With most dogs in a false pregnancy the nipples will harden but not swell and there wont be significant hairloss. Also, with a true pregnant dog the rib cage will noticeably expand. it will not do this with a false pregnacy. The best thing to do is take her to a vet. Dogs release the same hormones whether they are pregnant or not but there are tests a vet can do to determine if she is pregnant. and even if she is you can still have her spayed and the puppies aborted if they are not wanted.

You can get her spayed now and the pups if there are any will not be born!

Many dogs do have false pregnancy though. Their teats swell and sometimes even produce milk. Most of the time this goes away on it's own, but the vet can give meds if it is severe.

Although if your dog was left unattended at any time during her heat, you can pretty much count on her being pregnant... in which case you can get her spayed now to avoid the whole problem.

It's possible she is pregnant, but sometimes after a dog goes into heat for the first time it's like when a woman gets her period. And just like in humans some female dogs have bigger breast and their vagina can stay big too.

I would take her to your vet to get her checked out. If it is her first season and a dog has not got to her it could be a phantom pregnancy. These are really common and can last quite a while. One of my dogs had a phantom pregnancy and I was convinced she was pregnant, it mirrored all the real symptoms of pregnancy.

I'm not sure about if shes pregnant or not, but your not supposed to wait until after they go into heat to get them spayed. You are supposed to have the procedure done before they go into heat. Usually around 6 months of age

Not sure why you were waiting until after her first heat to get her spayed. You are supposed to have it done BEFORE her first heat. That also cuts down on cancer of the reproductive organs, to eliminate heat before she ever has one.

I'm sorry, but I really can't stand it when people are irresponsible about getting their pets spayed or neutered. I work for a local shelter, so I see the negative effects of it everyday.

PLEASE People, get your pets spayed or neutered while they are PUPPIES!

The teats and vulva always remain a bit larger and never return to the original size once she has gone through her first heat.
