Dogs - December 2006

I live alone in a hud housing complex. They do not allow dogs or cats as pets. I have missed numerous and various doctor's appointments because I cannot drive alone. I have no one to ride with me or take me to these appointments. I am so panic stricken that I also have heart palpations and fear another heart attack if I leave my house alone. I live in a small rural area with just my disability check.
Can anyone help?

We currently have no heat in my house (we are getting it fixed- but it should be a few days). I want to know what a safe temperature would be indoors for a small dog (8 lbs). Right now its about 57 degrees- she seems fine but I want to make sure whats safe because otherwise I will bring her somewhere during the day.

Any help would be appreciated.

my mom had reactions to my puppy Toby (a.k.a the Tobester)(he was a dachsund/beagle mix) so we had to give him away after awhile. I know she felt bad and we are thinking about trying to find another pup

I just adopted a Flat Coated Retriever from the local SPCA. They told me this dog was a lab mix, but my vet says he is a pure bred FCR (which I had never heard of). Anyway, I have had him 6 months now and he sheds something awful. Does this happen all year round and is there anything to help control it??

By the way, this is the sweetest dog I have ever owned. He likes to jump up and put his arms around your neck and actually "hug" you. I highly recommend Flat Coats as family pets. All my family and friends adore him.

my little pom is a very picky eater... i have tried everything and in the end realized that this little brat only wants to eat whats unhealthy for him and what my family eats... i give him his dog food.. he sniffs it and walks away.. i take it away 10 min later and give it back to him twice day... it's to a point where he hasn't eaten anything in 4 days.!!! he's still active... drinks water , plays , begs at the table.. but when it comes to eating his own food he backs off.... he hates dry food.. so we started him on canned ( holistic)... he ate it for a few days and then decided to stop eating it.. my mom boiled chicken and rice for him.. he loves it.. but when i tried mixing in a little bit of the canned food into the rice he refused to eat it... im desperate to find a way to get this little dog to eat normal... i just got him a month ago.. he;s 2 yrs old and apparently his previous owner didnt have any problems with him even tho he was skin and bones when i got him... help me plss

I am very upset with the answers I always receive from people every time I ask a QUESTION in a NICE way. I mean, what's wrong if I decide to crop my puppys' ears, or if I have two APBT'S (can't even use the word "pit bull" nomore, because even people get offended by it). First of all, all I ask for is for simple advice, I already know the questions that I'm supposed to ask the vet, and about the bad reputation of the breed. I mean, we can all do whatever we want with our money, or if some one wants to get a particular dog breed, then we got our reasons also; it doesn't matter if it's a toy or a giant breed of dog. Pit bulls, just like Boxers and Dobermans have an original look once they get their ears cropped..right? I know it's unecessary and painful, but how could that be, does anybody heard of the worth "anesthesia" or "pain medication"..?? Plus I'm not trying to get them to be fighting dogs or nothing. I just want 2 strong and beautiful blue pit bull dogs, with short ears.

i have a 4 pound 2 yr old purebred pom and i was wondering if i can give him infant multi vitamin supplement that comes in a liquid form since he's so little and has problems eating... he's been to the vet and is healthy...and he has recommended a supplement for him .. but i was wondering if a infant kind would work the same....

Both mine and my teacher's golden retriever have accidently got into chocolate bars and such, but nothing has happened to them at all. Do you think golden retrievers might be invulnerable to chocolate poisoning?

HOw should I care for him in the meantime? I normally feed him twice a day. Should I do anything different? I'm crate training him, and i took him out earlier today to feed him, and he was being his usual self- jumping and running around, letting us pet him. I already fed him once today.
