To give you an exact dollar figure is almost impossible. Lots of variables(type of dog, size, indoor/outdoor, food type, amount of food, any shots that are required, etc.)I own two dogs. One border collie/blue heeler mix and a lab/husky mix. I buy 50 pound bags of dog food every two weeks. Buy heartworm medicine once a year. Give a flea/tick treatment twice a year. Buy a bottle of Shampoo every 4 months. Dog treats/toys once a month. Leashes, collars, and tags about 1 or 2 a year. If you add all of this information together you are talking in the neighborhood of $600-$800 a year depending on brands and where you buy your stuff. I try hard to get my stuff at walmart, target, etc. but somethings you might have to go to a pet store for.

Break it down:
decent pet store dog food, 40 pond bag every other month=$180.
microchip= $35 - $75 depending on who you have do it
regular shots and annual check up = $140
flea and heartworm prevention= $120.
cute little dog sweater for winter= $20.
dog snacks, milk bones, rawhides, dental chews, balls, etc.= $60.

Total Estimated Cost of Dog Ownership = approx. $595.00 annually
This does not include costs to clean your carpet when Fido has an accident.
Add $5.95 for each bottle of Resolve, or $150.00 for each professional cleaning.
Grooming for Fido will run you from $40-$60. each time.
Teethe Cleaning by a vet: $180.00 as needed.

I should have remembered ... you can also purchase pet insurance for about $22.00 a month. This will cover any medical emergencies and in some cases that shots and yearly visit. That's $264 a year but subtract that earlier noted $140 and it really comes to about $144 for the insurance. Looking at it that way, it is not that much money but you'd be covered should Fido get hit by a car or in a fight. You can get this through Petsmart in most states.

Having a healthy, happy pet ...... priceless!

Without any major medical problems, you'll probably spend $150-250 a year at the vet for vaccines, heartworm, and flea & tick medication. Toys will run you around $100-150 a year, and you'll end up replacing collars too, but they're inexpensive. Food will be your biggest investment, and you really should buy the best you can afford. Expense can be a big reason why someone shouldn't get a dog, but trust me when I tell you that when you fall in love with those pleading eyes, no amount of money will matter. You will do whatever you can, buy them little toys every single time you go out, and love every minute of it. Dogs can cost over $1000 a year to keep sometimes, but it's well spent money. Constant loyalty, companionship and love!

It cost alot. Even thought you said healthy dog, that could change at any moment...eatting something wrong, getting sick, hurting themselves...the list can go on. An emergency vet visit will cost you anywhere from $250- Up..WAY UP. The toys, food, crate, collars, leashes isn't a big deal. I spend about $35 a month on food..his crate was $75, leash and collar $16..and the rest isn't a MUST...vet visits for shots, dewormed, etc that can cost around $150 each year...then there is Flea meds which is about $70 for a 6 month supply...Heartguard which is about $35 for a 6 month supply..it all adds up. But it's totally worth it.

My Pug is a puppy, so this was starting from scratch! I've spent over 2,000$ on her since April. That doesn't include the price it cost to buy her. She's had to have toys, treats, food, puppy shots, ect.. I also keep 1,000$ in a bank account at all times incase of emergency. I spend about 500-700$ on my other dog a year. He's two.

Dogs like people require different management. There is no correct answer for this question because no one can predict what the dog will need annually to remain healthy. The main concern when you decide to get a dog is knowing that in order to properly care for the dog he/she WILL be an additional expense and it is important that your decide BEFORE you get the dog whether or not you are willing to provide him with EVERYTHING that it takes to keep him happy and healthy throughout his lifespan regardless of the annual expense of it. Dogs are members of the family as well and if your hesitant about spending too much money when it comes to properly providing for the dog then do yourself and the dog a favor and opt not to get one. If "no price is too high" when it comes to caring for your dog, then go out and pick your new pup and give him the best life that a dog could ever want!

You need at least one vet visit per year with updates on shots, so figure around $200 for the vet. You need heartworm and flea/tick meds monthly year 'round, so figure about $15 a month for those. You'll need food, and good food is more costly, so assume about $8 a week for premium dog food. Dog toys and treats might run another $10 per month. A misc. kennel stay, pet bed, leashes, etc, and you should assume a minimum of $1000-$1200 per year. If you can't afford to do it right, think twice about getting a pet, since their health and nutrition needs should be your first concern.

Depends on the size, breed and health of the dog. I have a german shepherd. 80 lbs of food per month is about $85.00 (Canadian). Vet visits including regular check ups and shots cost approximately $70.00..I go at LEAST 2 times a year.
If you add inthe cost of treats, toys, beds, crates, leash, collar, or anything else you need or want..that can vary in prices. I spoil my dog, I spend about 15.00 per month on treats, 30.00-50.00 on toys per month (she either loses them or eats them) and the crate, leashes, collar and harness added up to about 150.00.

All in all...the initial stuff is approximately 300.00 not including price of dog.
Yearly: 1,030.00

Don't forget, this is my dog and she is a larger breed that requires more food and in some cases, new toys!!

You could probably divide my amount in half and that would be your yearly costs.

According to the Anti- Cruelty Society it cost between 6 and 8 hundred dollars a year, but it could be more or less depending on what you feed, vet you use, toys you supply and if you do training.

generally speaking, no vet time needed other then shots, flea control, and spay/neuter, i would guesstimate $1000 to $1200 per year. Good food, treats, toys, bedding, and washing included. First year add a couple hundred for spay.neuter. This does not include, carpet care, floor care, car car, furniture care/repair/replace if eaten, miscellaneous items torn apart or stolen from around the house, Dog house for outside - if required, etc.
