You can cut anythings fur. But i would leave it to a groomer so they can use clippers so it ends up looking good.

A lot of other folks have mentioned it already but it is worth repeating. It is not recommended that any dog with a double coat be shaved down. It does result in a nasty looking coat when it grows back and it can take years for it to look normal again. Sometimes it is necessary (rescues sometimes have to be shaved down because of neglect) but it should never become routine. You certainly can shape and trim the coat a little without problem!

I will never understand why people own coated dogs and then shave off the very thing that makes them beautiful. It happens a lot!

I had an apricot Pom and now have a black Teddy Bear Pom. When we first got her from the shelter she was very matted and so as soon as she got well enough we got her trimmed short. It all grew back just fine. The next summer we got a trim for her too as we believe she is cooler when she is trimmed. I think she looks just as cute. She is six now and this past April I started to trim her a little but now she is sick. I am wondering if she got a chill from being trimmed too soon. I didn't take much off just a little. I am sure worried about her now.

it's not suggested. dogs fur acts like an air conditioner as well as a heater. if the fur is matted badly, you should take it to the groomer so that they can take as little fur as possible off while taking care of the mats, but if you want to shave it just so there is less fur. DON'T it is harmful to the animal.

u can cut any dog's fur but that doesn't mean it will look good. I wouldn't cut its fur unless u were gonna shave it completely.

no you can't... poms have a double coat... and if you shave the undercoat over time it will grow back un-even and your dog will have bold spots... any good groomer should discourage you from cutting ur poms hair... the undercoat keeps your dog warm in winter and cool in the summer.... so there is no need to cut it...

Yes you can. I used to take my pomeranian to the groomer each summer and get them to give her a shave so she wouldn't be so hot in the summer months. They do not recommend doing it in the winter. You want your pom to be warm when she goes outside to do her business.

i suggest you take it a groomer to have it done, but if its just shedding the groomer can get alot of the dead hair out and the undercoating.....you want your dog to stay warm for the winter...in the summer theres no problem with cutting it off if you like it like that...they really don't look that bad shaved down i suggest with a 10 blade..........i am a groomer.......

If you decide to do it just be careful not to cut the poor little guy/gal's skin. Ouch!
