I am very upset with the answers I always receive from people every time I ask a QUESTION in a NICE way. I mean, what's wrong if I decide to crop my puppys' ears, or if I have two APBT'S (can't even use the word "pit bull" nomore, because even people get offended by it). First of all, all I ask for is for simple advice, I already know the questions that I'm supposed to ask the vet, and about the bad reputation of the breed. I mean, we can all do whatever we want with our money, or if some one wants to get a particular dog breed, then we got our reasons also; it doesn't matter if it's a toy or a giant breed of dog. Pit bulls, just like Boxers and Dobermans have an original look once they get their ears cropped..right? I know it's unecessary and painful, but how could that be, does anybody heard of the worth "anesthesia" or "pain medication"..?? Plus I'm not trying to get them to be fighting dogs or nothing. I just want 2 strong and beautiful blue pit bull dogs, with short ears.

Like I answered to your other question crop if you want and I will add own the dogs you want to own but do not look for approval here because everyone here thinks they are experts and everyone here knows it all. Why worry or get upset over the answers or comments you recieve from a bunch of people you do not know. Does it really impact your life at all?
By the way I think PITS look awesome with cropped ears and they are nice dogs if properly socialized and trained. Crop away!!! Happy holidays

Not sure what your answer is but anytime a person wants to discuss a personal choice in public you are going to have to take the good with the bad. You asked. Again you wrote "what's wrong if I decide to crop my puppies ears?" So people told you. Can't help it if you didn't like the answers.
Deciding to have cosmetic surgery on your dog is vain and painful. I don't care if they have anesthesia or pain medication. I work for a vet that does it and the puppies awake in HORRIBLE pain. Many dogs suffer long term and are head shy due to the pain caused early on. How can you ask how can cutting your dogs ears off not be painful? Your in denial.
If your parents or significate other told you they loved you but wanted you to alter something about you, put you under and gave you some pain meds for a couple of days would you like that? Would you feel loved unconditionally?
I don't think so.....plus if you are still in pain you can tell someone or get up and get the meds yourself, your dog can't.
I don't care what you call your dogs, pitbulls, amstaffs, ABPT, fighting dogs or etc.
Did you know it is illegal in other countries now to crop ears, dock tails, and declaw cats? I just wish it was here!
However, you are correct it is your money and they are your dogs. I just hope your kids ears aren't too big when their born.

I have answered a few questions about cropping and i am always surprised at how many people think they can change someones opinion on cropping by being nasty and sarcastic. Its like the question ' whats the difference between a tattooed person and a non tattooed person?-A tattooed person doesnt care if you dont have any'. There are some valid reasons still for cropping and docking but the anti people manage to convieniently forget them. Some breeds actually have weaker cartilage which makes their ears prone to breakage (i discovered this fact the hard way with my dobe). Others have more nerve endings so insects can make their lives hell and they can do some serious damage scratching(also dicovered the hard way with danes). Others have less blood flow so in the event of an injury infection is more likely(doberman and dane did it). I just had a really bad run with 2 dogs and it actually contributed to the death of my beloved dane. Some people still circumcise their male kids so why dont they anti people go pick on that first. As for all the people who get nasty and abusive and believe it should be illegal, how about we take away some of your choices and see how you like it.

I understand completely what you are saying about pitbulls. They do have such a bad rap. Most of them do make really good pets. It's just that they are so strong and can do so much damage when they do bite/attack. If you are not breeding your dog for fighting, then there shouldn't be any problem. That's what people don't seem to get.
However, the thing with cropping the ears is another issue. I have worked in an vet clinic. I have seen pets coming out of surgery. As with humans, anesthesia is used. Many vets, however do not use pain meds. As with humans, surgery is very painful. And to inflict a completely unnecessary surgery onto an unwilling participant for cosmetic reasons in my opinion is beyond selfish. It has nothing to do with how to spend your money. Humanatarians talk about what is happening to the little girls in Africa, getting their genitals cut off for no good reason. It seams crazy to us, as it should. However, we still have people who have no problem inflicting surgery on our helpless pets who have no say in the matter. If you pit bulls could talk what do you think they would say. I think they would feel loved if you accepted them the way nature intended. This is just one persons opinion.

There is nothing saying you can not crop your dogs ears.
Many people get very upset about it. I feel it is a personal choice. It is done under anestesia buy a vet and they do gove pain meds for after. It is not any worse thatn many things people do like declaw cats.
I have dobermans I do not crop their ears but some of my dogs were gotten as adults and once they are over 12 weeks most vets will not crop their ears. So it was not a question.
Even when I have had puppies I have not cropped their ears as I am not going to conformation show the dogs and did not want to spend about $400 to have it done purly for the look. I like the dobes just as they are.
It is a personal choice but people get really upset. People get upset that people even have pitts. I think they are beautiful dogs and most I have worked with are great dogs. I love the look of them and most I have met are great companions.

Go ahead and crop the ears. Just know that you will have to live with the fact that your dogs will probably have far fewer ear infections because of some desire for them to look a certain way.

Dogs are not natural, they were selectivly bred by humans, sometimes our selection wasn't always spot on.

My huskies don't think the other huskies are aggressive because their ears stand up. Dog's aren't idiots, they have very complex body language that isn't going to be messed up by having their ears cropped when they are pups.

However, I've heard that hearding dogs with pointy ears scare sheep more, and floppy eared dogs get not respect--the best is in between.

Take a look at neuter and spay statistics anywhere that cropping is banned. Most think that neutering their dog is also disfiguring (at least THAT'S not illegal--yet).

Personally I am not a big fan of cropped ears on any breed of dog. My personal opinion is I enjoy natural beauty, not cosmetic beauty. (Just my personal opinion, but at the same time I am not condemning your opinions either). Second, ignore any answers that you get that bash the pit bull breed. I too have 2 beautiful pit bulls who have been well socialized with people and other animals and both dogs are absolutely wonderful. As far as anyone who chooses not to like the breed, that is fine as well. I do not push my dogs on anyone as I personally do not want my dogs to interact with anyone who feels threatened by them because I do not want my dogs exposed to any negativity. I didn't spend my time socializing my dog's and making them the wonderful pets that they are for someone's elses ignorance to sour their reputations. As far as your pit bulls, I am sure they are beautiful with or without cropped ears. Best of luck with your pits, contrary to the media induced prejudice against the breed, they do make wonderful pets. As far as anyone who reads this comment and still wishes to bash the breed, the world is so huge that you are barely even noticed in it so actually you nor your opinion mean squat. Save your opinions for someone who asks to hear them.

I like to post questions that say -

JUST FOR LAUGHS and then try to bring a bit of humour to the site. Usually asking daft but funny questions that I really want to know the answers too because it makes me laugh. Even when asking some people to just have fun and joke they do the same as you are getting. Rude answers and long drawn out answers about why we should not cross breed any dog ect. I was just having fun. Look at my account and read some of the answers - honestly, why do people have to be rude! If they dont like the question or want to answer it they should just go on to another one. Anyway - all the best

It's really your decision if you want the ears cropped. As far as the bad reputation, almost any dog can be dangerous if not raised right. They're just not the kind of dog you get and expect to behave, they have to be taught. Thay can't help it, it's usually the owner's fault that has no clue how to deal with the breed. I hope all goes well with yours. :)

If you want to cut your dogs ears then you need to realize that the dog will appear more aggressive to other dogs and people. This is because dogs use their ears to display their mood, ears that are permanently up are a sign of aggression in nature. To me it looks strange as it is illegal to crop ears where I live. If you take your dogs to puppy classes then I'm sure it will benefit the way people view your dogs.
