My dog is about 6 years old and has never had a litter of puppies. We want to breed her at least once but we are concerned of her and the puppies health.

We have a beautiful Japanese Chin, but last year when still a puppy but trained, smelled the pine tree connected it to outside and peed all around it. How do we stop this? Do we have to give up real trees forever? I mean he will pee on the table leg if he associates it with outside so if we got a little tree it wouldn't help right now. Please help, I love real trees.

As a Pet Nutritionist, I spend a lot of my time trying to educate people about the misconceptions/lies/myths/etc in the pet food industry. I often criticize vets and breeders for their lack of knowledge when it comes to pet nutrition (I'm just being honest). However, more and more these days there are vets who are focusing on nutrition and preventative medicine. My question to you is "What do you consider to be the best QUALITY food and why"? This will allow me to judge if most of you are now focusing more on nutrition or if there is still a long way to go to ensuring our pets are receiving the best possible nutrition. Points will go to the person who shows that they have consider nutrition in the foods they recommend and can justify their choice

My 5 year old Golden Retriever is acting like she is pregnant, when I know for sure she isn't. If I had to describe it, I would say she is 'brooding' or 'nesting'. She carries toys around and licks them, whines, always wants to be near us, pants heavily, and generally seems to be going through some emotional issues. She has had puppies, two years ago. She hasn't been fixed, but we are certain she isn't pregnant.

I have seen her exhibit lesser versions of this behavior before and it usually fades after a few days, I assume this too will pass.

Is it anything to worry about? We are thinking of having her fixed, will that stop this?

I think my mutt would be outstanding as an obstacle course type dog. I think she'd just absolutly love it. Not sure how to go about this. She's a seven month old spaniel type border collie/lab mix kind of girl and she's got the moves. What next? I'd like to give it a try and if she didn't like it then I wouldn't force it. But I'm guessing she'd probably enjoy it.

My female dog is 11 yrs old & we got her at 1 yrs old. She has been the only & I never noticed her to go in heat. I did see blood a few times but thought it was what all female dogs did even if spayed. We got our male dog a year ago & planned on neutering him this summer (would have earlier but finances). But she must be in heat & i quess she is not fixed so non-stop they are at it. I have tried separting them in & out of the house but both of them whine, bark, and scratch at the doors, and knock over the gates. Plus we have a terrible next door neighbor!! I know they have already gotten together but Im upset because If I knew I'd avoided this awhile back & I dont want puppies!. I called the vet & they cant get her in until Nov. 27th. Is there anything else I can do? Any home remedy? We cant sleep, I'm tired of seeing it and my male is a doberman and and female is a lab. I know I read 14-21 days in heat please tell me this wont go on that long...any advice would be greatly needed!

Joeseff is a 2 year old, husky/chow/doberman mix. From the day we got him, we knew he had agressive tendancies. At just over a year, we had to have him fixed because they were out of hand - he was attacking every other male dog we had. Getting him fixed solved this problem. Yesterday, he got out of his pen located in the basement for the winter months (large, spacey and shared with 4 other dogs), and attacked and killed one of my cats. We only had that cat for 2 months, the cat was about a year old. Everyone is telling me that I should have Joe put down for it. I don't think so - even though I loved the cat, I realize that dogs and cats are natural enemies and sometimes this happens - but everyone keeps saying that if he will kill a cat, he will attack people. What should I do? Are they right, or can I simply try to teach Joe to leave my cats alone? If he can be taught, how do I do it? I know this is a loaded question and I thank anyone for taking time to read and answer me.

Okay, I have a little 7 month old chihuahua mix and he's pretty much my baby....but he does something that is just disgusting and everytime I catch him doing it I spank him but it doesn't teach him.
Sometimes after he poops, he will try to eat his poop. I know it's not healthy AT ALL...I think it gives them worms. But anyway...why would he do that? How can I stop him from doing so? He's potty trained. But when I'm not home while I'm at work he sometimes goes inside and I'm afraid he may be doing it while I'm not there.
Any suggestions?
P.S please no answers that ONLY say "talk to your vet" I know that... but I want people's opinions/suggestions on it. Thanks :-)

Ok here's the problem. When we got the puppy she was underweight. At feeding time (she's now 14 weeks) she attacks her food like she can't get enough. We feed her four times a day for a total of 4 1/2 cups. She is a large breed puppy. I think she should get more food because there is a problem if she's not feeling full, however my boyfriend is very strict and wants to follow the feeding guidelines on the kibble bag to a T. What do you think? She is gaining weight, but it my opinion still is on the skinny side. And my boyfriend is anorexic anyway so his standards are obviously low.

He is always licking himself and his whole underbody has turned red/black and he has a very bad ordor. He has started to work his way up his sides. Never use to mess in the house and now he messes on the floor at night when we sleep or he barks to get out every night , through the night which is something he never did before. We are always sure to let him out everynight before we go to bed and this has always worked for the 11 years we have had him but it no longer works.
