The term "blockhead" simply refers to the shape of its noggin.

One who doesn't do what you tell it! Or Charlie Brown's 2nd dog - LOL!

It is actually one of the many nicknames given to a conformation-type Labrador Retriever. There are 2 different lines of Labs bred in this country: performance/field (AKA American) type which are rangy, finer boned with longer, narrower heads bred to have high energy & drive for use in retrieving/hunting. The conformation/Engish (AKA 'Blockhead') type are stocky, large boned with rather rectangular 'blocky' heads, bred to the AKC's standard (the written profile saying what a good example of the breed should look like) to show for conformation titles and make calmer, steadier pets.

The name speaks for itself. There are "blockhead' boxers as well.
