my dog has got a bald patch around his eye and a man told me to go to the chemists and ask for pure silverkrin he said he used it years ago on a dog he had that had suffered some hairloss has any one heard of it

It's type of hairspray. I've heard of it before. Be careful when you use it though. You don't want to put it in your dog's eye.

No - don't trust this very vague advice - there are lots of possible reasons for hairloss, so you need to have the cause properly diagnosed by a vet, and the correct treatment given.

pure silverkrin is not a hairspray, its a bit like the modern hair gels, but is white & men used to put it in their hair to get a glossy look & to feed the hair thus preventing hairloss (or at least helping anyway) I wouldn't think for one minute it would do any harm to try it, just be careful of the eyes.

Siverkrin is hairspray. Its not good for eyes and its not a medicine!
There are lots of different reasons for hair loss, including mange and ringworm which you can catch from your dog. Hairspray can only do more harm than good, you really need to see a vet!

Never heard of it.
I'm not saying that the man is wrong, he may well just be better informed than I am, but with anything you're not sure of regarding your pets you should ask your vet.

Pure Silvikrin is a clear liquid, but very expensive. My mother used it to keep her toupee (wig), which was made of natural hair, in good condition. Don't think it would solve your problem.

you should go to your vet and have the dog checked it could be a fungus or the mange. and you have to be very careful when you are putting anything around the animals eye you do not want them to go blind.

DO NOT DO THAT! You must visit your vet because your dog may have ringworm. Please take your dog to the vet and dont look around for home remides...
