Sounds like he has an infection. Infections usually have an odor. He'll need a trip to the vet to diagnose the problem. If he's changing he habits, that might be a sign that he has something wrong with him.

Good golly! This dog needs a vet visit to determine what kind of rash he has. Lets start with that. The change in potty habits can also be addressed during the vet visit. Maybe your dog has an infection that the rash is a symptom of and the change of potty habits? Or maybe they are 2 separate issues. Only way to find out? TAKE HIM TO THE VET! The rash is spreading and your dog is trying his best to go potty outside, poor thing! It may be a simple as a little medication and maybe even he needs to go in the middle of the night and someone will have to let him go outside AGAIN during the night, or try and get him to go on paper if he can't get outside (mine are trained to go, if they must, in the bathroom, because I can bleach it down there easier then say the carpet in the house and so on). Its a way of containing the "accidents" that can happen. But still, get your pup to the vet, you have had him long enough for him to have earned medical benifits in your household. As to the one opinion of putting him down, ARE YOU ON CRACK? Don't you think they should first FIND OUT what is wrong with the dog before resorting to gassing the dog? Sheesh! Some heart you have! Would you put a pillow over your Grams face if she slipped and broke a hip? Good GOLLY!

He has a skin infection. you NEED to take him to the vet!! My dog just had this. The vet will give you something for the itching and something for the infection. If the vet doesn't give you special shampoo then ask him/her about some anti-itching shampoo and cream. It's called Relief and the vet should have some there. It WON'T get better on his own, and don't worry you don't have to put him down you just have to take him to the vet. good luck! :)

the rash is either a skin infection or allergic reation to the food he is on
read the lable and avoid the common problem causers - soy, beef, pork, corn, wheat and meatmeal (mystery meat)
Lamb and Rice is considerd hypo allergenic..
or it could be from a household cleaner (on floor or carpet) coming in contact with the skin and irritating it
the messing in the house could be age related... or medical,, or also food related (better quality foods you feed less so the dog poops less plus it wont irrate the bowels)

an 11 year old dog is like a 80 year old grandmother, they have to go to the bathroom a lot. it sounds to me like you dog has a yeast infection on his skin. you should take him to the vet and get him some antibiotics.
