We have had her for one week so far and we have had approx 4 accidents inside the house. She is being crated at night (and that works great) and I'm a stay at home mom so I have her on a pretty routine schedule. I'm using the command phrases and she seems to know what we go outside for because she does "her business" pretty quickly but she still seems to not understand that she shouldn't do it indoors. Anyone tried the bell training?

I am a trained Biologist with no children. I was thinking of adopting a wolf/german shepard hybrid. I can train, exercise, and cognitively give the bog what it needs, still, is it a good idea?

okay, i have a smart dog who can get past his electric fence (the old wear down the batteries trick) I don't want to trap him inside or chain him up because that would be mean. anyway I need to know a good fence brand for a large dog, prices and where I can get one.

I am NOT a cat person, nor particularly interested in exotic pets. I would prefer a dog with a short hypoallergenic-type hair (though NOT necessarily a poodle) that does not shed much and can be kept clean with minimum daily care and occasional visits to the doggy beauty salon (lol). Also preferably one with a great temper, limited bread health problems, and minimal outdoor activity needs. In other words, I want the perfect dog bread for an apartment environment. Any good suggestions? Thank You!

P.S. Which would be cleaner and easier to handler - a male or a female dog and do you recommend having it fixed or neutered at some point? Thanks

I have a 2 year old Boxer who is now becoming more aggressive my my 2 and half year old Husky. They are both fixed, and very loving pets. However the past 6 months my Boxer has been asserting himself as more dominant that her, and she will not tolerate it. I figured I'd let them figure it out on their own, but there is no resolution to this. He never instigates the fights, usually she will become aggressive with him and then its on, and he always kicks her butt, but she never submitts to him. The last fight they had I had to pull him off her, he had choked her out where she had blood comming out of her nose. I will not get rid of them, they are my babies, and have never been aggressive with me or my child, they both know where there status is when it comes to me and my family, but they seem to really be decking it out when it comes down to them. It is not food aggression, or toy possesion, my 60lb boxer will be walking by her, and my 45 lb husky will lash out at him. PLS Help?

Hi, my friend has a border collied (now 7 months old) for as long as they've had him he chases his tail non stop, he goes to two places in the house and just continuously spins, this can also be set off by excitement or even simple sounds such as sniffing or the clasp on a bracelet. Does anyone else have a problem similar to this with this breed of dog. He seems to ignore everyone and everything around him just to do this and no amount of shouting stops him. I know this breed generally are difficult pets because of their energy and need for stimulation, but he is walked regularly and never seems to tire. It makes us all dizzy. HELP!!

I have heard suggestions like diet, water, keeping hair out of eyes, but I am wondering if products, like Diamond Eyes, for example, actually work?

where they sleep. the thing is i have a baby gate to keep them for getting in the rest of the house at night, but lately they have found flipping the gate and slightly opening it and getting thu and when i wake uop in the morning they are in the front of the bedroom door straching to get it. my question, besides a baby gate, what else can I try to place on this doorway to prevent them from wonering around the house? please advise and thank you.

by the way they are not puppies dogs, the female is 10 and the male 5, so it is not a puppy thing.

Hi!

I'm a new owner of a cute 3 month old black lab/blue tick hound puppy... a wonderful gift from my husband. I have never owned a dog before, so need advice. Here is my concern:

When I take my puppy out to go potty, he has a routine. He does his business, rolls around in the grass or dirt, then finds a stick to chew on. Big stick, small stick... any stick, puppy isn't picky.

I have been taking the sticks away from him because I'm afraid he will choke on it. I try to give him his chew toys, but Drew (my puppy) doesn't want the toy, he rather have a stick. I was really worried about the stick thing, so my husband went out yesterday and tried to remove all the fallen sticks/branches/twigs from the yard. But still, Drew always manages to find one that we missed (we have a ton of trees on our property, so it's not hard).

What should I do? Should I keep taking the sticks away from him? Or should I let him chew to his heart's content?

Thanks...
T.

She has rubbed her head on other dead animals such as frogs, worms, lizards, & birds. Also in rotten food and spots on the ground with a foul scent.

I have a 5 and a half year old staffordshire bull terrier who's only been living with us for the past month or so. He's formed a huge bond with me since my husband works away a few nights a week and I'm home full time. Now every time my hubby comes back he complains that I give the dog too much attention and the dog seems a bit put out that my husband's around too. How can I make life easier for all of us? Hubby is reluctant to spend too much time with the dog cos he's 'tired' from working and it's my responsibilty so I don't see how things can improve much.

I just got given a new poodle, puppy I guess 'cos he's like a year and half old, and he goes completely crazy when I leave the house for work.

He screams and cries and yelps, and I live in an apartment block. I feel so bad for the puppy and for the neighbors. What can I do? How can I train this puppy to just wait for me till I get back? I can't even step out for a second cos he'll start going nuts and yelping.

Advice please!!!!! What can I do???? :(

In the morning at around 8 I go to school, and my parents go to work. At lunchtime, my mum usually comes home to have lunch, so then she could give the dog some food and let it out in the garden. I come home at about 4, and I can take it for a longish walk.

We have quite a big house and a good sized garden. We live in a nice place with parks and things. So the dog has got a nice place to go for walks.

The dog needs to be good with children(I have a 5 year old brother), needs a medium amount of excercise, doesn't shed too much, is fairly intelligent and a great companion.

I have read about quite a few dogs on the internet and have come up with some. Please let me know about other dogs which I might like and comment on the ones I have selected. They are:
Beagle
Golden Retreiver
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Thank you so much!

And one more thing, how much excercise does a golden retreiver need daily and how much do they shed? Thanx!

My dog's cataracts have gotten really bad this year and I can't afford $1100+ for the surgery. This isn't fair for her but I can't do it on my own. Does any one know any organizations who help with this kind of situation? Thank you for your help.

When out walking today with my 6 months old pup and sister, we heard this dog go berserk at us (as we were accustomed to everytime we go walking in that area). It was dark, and it was in this fenced property so we just kept walking towards the house since we normally go that way on our walks. Then all of a sudden this humongous dog started walking out of the property. The gate wasn't shut properly. It was growling as it came towards us slowly. It would have been about 5-10 metres away from us. My puppy is really friendly and she just kep walking to the dog, so i quickly picked her up, and we all turned around and walked away without looking at the dog.
Is that what I should have done? Or do dogs attack from the back as well?

hi! i have a cavelier king charles spaniel, he is only 1 year 6 months. just about 1 month ago, i noticed that my dog's eye, (the pupil) was white. i told my mum, and we went to the doctor the doctor said that it was juvnile cataract, and he just gave us this small like 5 or 10ml bottle for the eye. and it cost like S$50???? it's crazy!!!! just a few weeks ago we went to the same vet again cos the eye medicine finished, and we got a better quality cataract eye drop. and it cost S$65. the vet said that we had to get rid of the white thingy, and if not then, it will become more serious. and eventually we'll have to do surgery for my dog!!!! and we don't have enough money, i just need some help, anyone who knows anything about this cataract, then pls do contact me at my email: xamanpreetx@hotmail.com

my dog has got juvnile cataract, it's the primary stage cataract. and just help!!!!!!!
