Talk to your vet for treatment and preventative for the animals. I recommend Frontline (real Frontline is only available from your vet). Don't buy any flea treatments from the pet store, grocery store, etc...many are ineffective or hazardous to your animals. Don't use any home remedy without talking to your vet...Borax and garlic are toxic to them. For your house, get an area treatment spray from your vet. They are very effective at killing the fleas in your carpet and furniture.

Depending on the age of your pet, take your pet to the vet. If your pet is over 5 lbs and is over 12 weeks old the vet may give your pet Frontline or Frontline Plus for it's fleas. It will kill and repel fleas for up to one month. As for your carpets and upholstery there are many things in the store you could try but your best bet is to go to your vet and ask what they recommend. We had a flea investation a month ago, and nothing really worked that we got over the counter for fleas, so we ended up going to the vet and get something that was much more effective.
As for the other stuff you mentioned wouldn't be a good idea, especially the borax because it could kill or severely make your pet sick.
Good luck to you and I hope I was some what helpful!

If you already have flea's, bathe the dog in some kind of dish soap. I use Ivory, but just about any will work. Then use Zodiac bombs in your house, you can get them at Petsmart and the like. Give that a week or two and then put Advantage or Frontline on the dog (s). Then you are pretty well good to go!! I don't like to do the bombs and the Advantage on the same day so I don't risk making the dogs ill with to many chemicals all at once. I use the Advantage every other month, and that seems to keep us pest free!

Frontage, Advantage and Bio Spot are pretty good choices. However, the main question is how to keep the fleas from attacking you inside your house.
Solution: Get vaccum cleaner that uses a bag-do not use bagless cleaners. Place two to three month balls into the bag and vaccum a few times a week.
The smell will not only keep the fleas out of your house but will also help with those other pests. Been doing this for years and have been a pet owner pretty much all my life.

There is a wonderful natural product called flea treats that we've used for more than five years on cats & dogs with great success. It's more affordable that the prescription varieties, & carries none of the possible dangers that come with any chemical applied topically.
If there are already fleas in the carpet & furniture, then using borax on the carpet then vaccuuming it up tends to work well.
Be sure to wash the dog's bedding, too, as they'll burrow pretty deeply into it.

Vacuum the carpet and then sprinkle Twenty Mule Team Borax on the carpet. Do this every time you vacuum. The Borax will kill the fleas in the carpet and with continued use will kill the fleas that are hatching from the eggs.
Joy, left on for about 10 minutes will kill the fleas on the dog.
I use an otc called Bio Spot on the dogs. I've used it for over 10 years on all my dogs and on all the rescues that I get. Haven't seen a flea or tick in over 10 yrs.

Get Frontline or Advantage for your dogs and cats. Each gets a different type, and you may need to get them from a Vet.
Each application lasts 2-3 months, and does not wash off from bathing or swimming. These are both VERY effective. Fleas will jump onto your pets and then die, so they will remove some fleas from your house. If you want to get rid of all fleas in your house in one day, get a Pyrethrin spray that also contains Insect Growth Regulator. This can be sprayed on carpets and will last for months.

frontline is the best product avail from vet clinics, they make a liquid spot on for both dogs and cats, and can b used from puppy/kitten stage. They also have a spray that u can treat their kennels and bedding with. Also use a flea bomb for you home if needed.
