I have a Rotty male who is nearly 4 (on September 15 - yay!) & he has been well trained since he was a pup. He stands his ground where strangers are concerned & watches their every move without growling, snarling or barking.

He plays with children no problem & has a fascination with babies... don't know why he does but thats just one of his many quirks! He only barks a few warning barks when a particular alsation (his arch nemesis - Buck) steps onto his turf but thats it.

Back to my question - as a owner thats taken the time to bring out the best in this noble breed i get sick of reading about rottys that have savaged a child or another dog, & joe public subsequently thinking this is how ALL Rottys are. Do other Rotty or large dog owners in general feel the same?

My 10weeks old lab pup wont leave the house when I take him on walks. I have to drag him everywhere. He whines and cries and throws a complete fit! As soon as we start heading home, he pulls on his leash so hard that he chokes himself. But when I walk with atleast 1 other person, hes totally fine. Is this just a phase, or do I have to train him out of it? I have tried everything I can think of. Please help!

Ok. I went to the animal shelter. I got a purebreed Black and Tan coonhound. I want to put her into agility competitions but I don't have papers on her. Is there a way for me to get papers for her without having known her parents.... somebody dropped her off at the animal shelter and said she was a purebreed and she looks like a purebreed..... Can anyone tell me where i can do this or if it will cost money??????????

I just got a 1year old male chihuahua last night from a friend of mine that just couldn't spend enough time with him. I don't know a lot about this breed. Is there anything special about him that I should know about to make sure I am taking care of him properly?

My autistic son tends to wander off, and I was looking into service dogs that are trained to track him if and when this happens.
The problem is, I already have a mini schnauzer puppy who is only 5 months old, and was wondering if I could just train him to track my son instead.
So, can a mini schnauzer be trained to track, or do I have to have a "tracking" type dog?

I previously asked a question about dog kennelling, and received a lot of sanctimonious, preaching, self righteous remarks. I AM GOING TO RAISE DOGS FOR PROFIT!!! WITH OR WITHOUT YOUR APPROVAL!!! But I want to do it right. My question is this: Why must they be in small "cages" or "runs". Is it a bad idea to periodically let the females be together, say in a communal area, for several hours per day, as we would our family pet(s). And also, is there a more humane design for the kennels? Thank you.

We have an invisible fence, and I let my GSD out on her own several times during the day, so she can play and go potty..The problem? My neighbor has a bunch of little kids (who are good kids) but always bother her...They stand on the line and call her..This drives her crazy..They also ride their bikes and stop right in front of house and taunt her..I have talked to the kids nicely and asked them to not bother her, but they just are intriqued with her and continue...She listens to me at all times and comes when I call her, except when those kids are around...She barks and growls and runs like crazy, never taking her eyes off of them.I have tried to introduce her to them, on our property line (on a leash) but when she barks they scream and yell and run around, and it makes her more crazy..Anyway I like my neighbor and they are good neighbor's but i dont want to make him mad if i ask him to tell the kids not to bother her...would u be mad if a neighbor asked uto talktothem about it?

I have a 4 month old German Shepherd cross. At the moment she is biting and chewing everything including me. I've tried every method to stop her like shaking a can to distract her or walking away, giving a sharp tap on the nose and I also tried the alpha roll. None of these seem to work and sometimes she'll nip me for no reason. What other methods could I use and how long before she should stop?

I have a sheltie - born in 1996 - and she doesn't do anything. After a walk, she comes home and sleeps for hours. Never affectionate anymore, throws up frequently, doesn't answer to commands and walks very slowly.

Mother runs away from the dogs, they are barely three weeks old. I bought them milk from the store, but they don't want to eat it. What kind of food can I buy for them? (they have no teeth yet.) One puppy tries to eat the mothers hard food, but he can't chew it. Any suggestions? I feel they are not eating enough. Thanks!

He chews his dentley treats, and will chew a larger chunk of chicken or watermelon so I know he CAN chew, its just a matter of how bad is it that he doesn't chew his food. He is regular and I am not worried about his digestion.

My 5 year old male pug keeps coughing and gaging. He acts like he wants to throw up...but he never has. Is he sick?? What could it be? He also has some crud type stuff on the top of his nose. It's the color of his nose..but it just looks cruddy and bumpy. He licks his nose all the time. It's always just a little runny...but not much. Is this normal? Should I take him to the vet??
