Lack of cleaning...she might have earmites.

On the ears - yeast overgrowth is the most common cause of stinky ears. If they smell real bad, they could be infected. Does she yelp when you rub the base of her ears? You can use a room temperature mixture of vinegar & water...gently get it all the way down into the ear canal, rub gently. You should hear a squishy sound - then let her shake her head and clean the visible parts of her ears with cotton or kleenex. Dogs who are prone to this benefit from regular ear cleanings. The vinegar helps stabilise the Ph.

Also, a grain free diet, will help prevent ear yeast infections.
You do need to watch this problem closely as flies will blow the ears and this causes maggots, if they get these into the ears they will eat into the brain and kill ur dog. My suggestion is clean the ears like i said and also seek your vet for antibiotics to help clear the infection up and keep ur dog inside away from flies.

"Stinky" ears is often a sign of an ear infection. If allowed to continue the infection can "poison" the dog, cause the dog a lot of pain, and maybe even cost the dog its hearing; so, yes, it is harmful.

There are several dog-ear-cleaning solutions available that are relatively inexpensive and are easy to use. (Just squirt it in the ears and let the dog "shake" it out.) You can find these at websites like www.drsfostergrant.com or at any large pet store.

We also suggest taking your dog to the vet to check for ear mites.

Most likely an ear infection, dogs rarely get mites. Yes it can definitely be harmful if not treated (may cause deafness). See your vet. He can do an ear cytology to see what type of infection it is and give proper medication as well as an ear wash.
Ear infections in dogs are painful, see your vet soon.
Please do not try to treat on your own (especailly do not use vinegar, peroxide, or alcohol) as you can cause significant damage if there is a problem with the ear drum.

Check out this website. Lots of good info.

If he has stinky ears and is scratching them it is a sign of an ear infection. You should take him to the vet immediately to have him diagnosed and treated. Often the vet will prescribe an antibiotic to clear up the infection and sometimes they will give you a solution to put in his/her ears to help break up built up ear wax that inhibits his/her ability to hear.

Ear infection. Your dog's ears shouldn't have an odor.

Have a vet examine your dog, he will prescribe the appropriate medicine (it's different for ear mites vs. just infection) and then
ask how to keep them clean after the problem is gone.

This is not something you should be treating without a vet diagnosis, since you need to know the cause before you treat, and over-the-counter dog meds are not appropriate.

Leaving a dog's ears smelly and infected is cruel and can lead to deafness, so please bring the dog for an exam asap.

Best wishes for your pup.

Itchy and stinky ears are two major signs of infection. Get your baby to the vet. They'll be able to test to see whether it's bacterial or yeast, and prescribe an ear wash and ointment.
My Golden Retriever used to get ear infections all the time.

Sounds like an ear infection. If it's to the point that it smells, then it is serious and she needs to be seen by a vet. They will need to do a culture to see what kind of an infection it is, possibly clean the ears, and then give you some meds to get it cleared up.

It sounds like earmites. One way to help stop the itching is to clean the ears with a Q-tip and a little baby oil. If your dog continues to scratch, take it to the vet. There are prescriptions out there that will definitely kill the mites. Once that is done, you should check the dog periodically to be sure they haven't come back.
