Your problem may still be answered by nutrition.
I have been researching canine nutrition over the past year or so because I want to feed my pom the best too. Of course, I've been advised by others to avoid feeding commerical brands in grocery stores. (Alpo, Kibbles and Bits, Purina Beneful, Pedigree, etc.) They are junk, right? Science Diet, Pro Plan, Eukanuba and Iams are better. But.... If you really want to feed a higher-quality diet, try one of these: Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Spot's Stew, Chicken Soup for the Soul, PetGuard, Wellness, Canidae, Wysong or Neura Meats. But now, I would even go a step further and recommend a human grade dog food. (Wellness and Canidae are human grade kibble/canned and there are others as well I believe.)
Another options I have recently discovered is dehydrated human grade dog food. I believe that it is a higher quality than kibble because is not processed like kibble. I just purchased a dehydrated food from Olee.com called NRG Canine Blend. My pom loves it! It even costs less than the kibble I was buying. The Honest Kitchen also makes: Natural Dehydrated Dog Food.
I also feed my dog fresh food: chicken, beef, fish, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, veggies, and fruit. I never feed him junk food like hot dogs, anything with added sugar, etc.
It won't happen overnight, but after you start feeding your pooch a higher quality diet you should notice some improvement in three to four months. It's true though... all dogs shed, but hopefully this will help. Science diet is great! I fed a former cocker spaniel that for years and it lived a happy, healthy life! But try something a bit more expensive and higher in quality for better results.

Shedding is a dogs natural way of removing his undercoat. If you live in a hot climate this is not an issue other than the hair problem.
Contact a good pet groomer and have your pet "ferminated." This should remove all your pets underlying coat and you will see a new and improved animal. A much more contented animal. You will not have this problem anymore and this lasts a very long time. Should run you about $30- $35 at best.
Make sure you contact a good pet groomer. Someone suggested olive oil in his food this is ok but mineral oil is better, but you don't need to add it every time. Just keeps the skin from drying out and adds a nice shine to your pets coat.

All dogs do shed and poms do shed quite a bit, but brushing will help and changing the dogs diet from the crappy science diet. Science diet, eukanuba, iams are full of fillers and not healthy for your dog. Any commercially advertised food is 90 percent fillers with grain and artificial flavors and no nutrients. The vets promote science diet as they do sell it and get a 40 percent profit on all they sell.
Innova evo, canidae, and solid gold has good ingrediants and nutrients in their food. Wellness is suppose to be good also. My 19 year old sheltie was on science diet several years ago and she had nothing but hair loss and allergies til i got her off this food and put her on the raw diet, now she has no problems with allergies or shedding. i also feed innova when my kids have to feed them.

I have a pomerian as well that sheds alot too. It is not what you are feeding him. It just that they do shed alot. And now that it is summer weather the dog will shed more than usual. But after the weather goes from hot to cold the dog wont shed half as bad. Just remember to brush out the hair everyday so that it wont get all over the house. And no this is not a sign of poor nutrition. As I have asked my vet about this.

Science Diet isn't that great a food.It is loaded with corn/fillers & by products. Look for foods with no corn, wheat, soy or beet pulp and also without by products. They should also have meat as at least the first 2 ingredients. Also keep your dog regularly groomed. A thorough daily brushing will help distribute the natural oils in the coat and wil lalso reduce the shedding undercoat.

Just so you know. Science Diet is a horrible food. It's about 75% Corn. Try switching to a dog food with other ingredients. A good dog foods ingredients will be mostly vegetables and meat or meat by-products. it will also contain some kind of filler like rice or bulgar wheat. These have a lot more nutrition then corn. Also your dog could be allergic to corn.
Or he could just be shedding.

My Maltese-Pomeranian mix doesn't shed at all. That I see, LOL all dogs shed to some slight degree. It can be a sign of poor nutrition, does she have any other issues you can see? Try a derm tab bought tat the Pet Store. It hase some great nutrients in it for skin & hair. It has Vitamin's A, E, Selenium, Zinc etc. It may help! :)

Not all dogs do well on Science Diet. In a few breeds, SD has historically been associated with various health problems including allergies, hypothyroid (thick skin and hair loss). Some breeders will stand behind the health of their dogs but actually have a clause in the puppy agreement that if the dog is fed SD, they no longer guarantee the dog's health...

Pomeranians naturally blow their coats twice a year. Brushing them good in between will really help. A monthly bath or more often with a conditioner will help as well. Pet co has a 22.00 special grooming that pretty much takes care of mine. I have raised Poms for years with out a lot of hassle. Good Luck! If the hair gets extremely thin then I would definitely put her on a different diet.

Vets recommend Science Diet because they sell Science Diet.
Read the dog food label. The first ingredient in a good dog food is meat, not corn.
