Yes diamond eyes works. But after you use it you need to keep their hair out of their eyes. Trim their hair around the lower lid, and pull the hair above their eyes up with a bow if it's long enough. If it's not long enough, trim it so it doesn't fall into the eyes. You should also wipe their eyes with a wet cotton ball every day. DO NOT USE PEROXIDE! IF YOU GET IT INTO THE EYES IT CAUSES SERIOUS IRRITATION AND CAN EVEN CAUSE BLINDNESS!!! Tear stain removers work, and they are especially made for this purpose. You have to be very careful with anything you put near the eye, but store bought stain removers are the best. Also, when you bathe your dog, use a tear free shampoo an their entire body. Your groomer can recommend a good one. My vet recommended Johnson's Baby Shampoo.
Some people are stupid; bettyboop, a Maltese is a white dog, and the red stains come from the chemical makeup of the tears. No amount of wiping is going to do good. You have to make sure the dog doesn't have anything irritating the eye, and if tear stains occur, use a stain remover.

Try a product called Eye Envy stain remover. It is used by trainers for show dogs. There is a web site for it which is eyeenvy.com.
Hope this helps,
Thanks D

No, no, no!! Jus twipe them---my dog--a feist--has no eyelashes and that's why they run. No big deal.
Find out if your dog has eyelashes--don't give it eyedrops for tears OK? Just give it's eyes a little wipe, with love.
The reddish stain is probably the color of the dog?

Try chatting at a maltese forum like http://malteseforum.com/ where the people will actually want to help. Otherwise you'll keep getting the idiots on yahoo who tell you to use bleach :-(
Good luck :-)

Feed a ***LOWER***protein feed!!!!
Yes,diamond eye DOES work..oddly enough-one of the FEW products that DOES!
After using, smear a TINY amount of vaseline in area. It'll help it not stick so badly.
DO ***NOT*** trim the hair!!!! It ONLY makes it WORSE by STICKING *INTO* the dogs eyes!!! Long hair lies FLAT!!! Geeeeeze,folks-THINK!!!
