My five-year-old German Shepherd, a magnificent dog that barely two weeks ago was chasing rabbits through the brambles with reckless abandon, is about to be put to sleep with an insidious disease called Degenerative Myelopathy. A couple of days ago he awoke unable to walk. He stumbled, dragged his knuckles, and suffered the ignominy of being unable to relieve himself without help. The progression of the disease was frighteningly rapid; which may be a blessing for the dog, but makes the sadness in this house palpable.

To others suffering similar tragedies, I may not know you, cannot hold you, but just know that there are others who share your despair.

Ive been feeding 4 feral, fixed cats for over a year now. A little kitten recently showed up during the daily scheduled feeding time. I will admit, i was a little discouraged since ive TNR(trap neuter, returned) all four cats, and not sure where this cat could have came from, the last one was spayed months ago Also, I thought one of the benefits of TNR was not only to stop the breeding, but and also to keep other outside cats from coming into thier territory. Anyways, this kitten has made it into the fold, shes come by the last four nights, and the other have accepted her so have I
I realized that this kitten has no tail!?!?From observance, the cat seems healthy, full of energy and doesnt show any marking that there ever was a tail? Is this normal? I feel so bad for her and tried for the past three nights trying to catch her, but she way to fast and wild, so im going just wait till shes a little older and TNR her as well. (sorry i know there alot aside info in this question

My vet's receptionist asked me what colour my cat was. I said 'calico'. She said 'what?' I said 'calico' then she asked me to open the carried until she had a look at her. Then she said 'no, she's tortoiseshell' and looked at me if I was mad. I dont have a photo of my kitty to hand but she is exactly like the one in the photo attached http://crittergeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/calico.jpg
Am I wrong? Is calico not a recognised colouration in the UK?

there are many registered breed auctions killer buyers don't get many slaughter bound horses, some high quality horse auctions killer buyers don't attend at all. Because an inexperienced or distressed owner sells a horse at auction does not reflect on the horse at all. I go to lots of auctions, practically every weekend, and have for a lot of years. I've bought more than several horses at auction, most were/are very good horses with zero permanent problems. "dealer" is another word that seems to have negative connotations here. I know several people who used to make a good living relocating horses, most add value thru training or feed. I've never considered myself a dealer because of volume of sales only, not that i'd be insulted. My father and many of his friends were considered horse dealers and saved many horses from slaughter. Most of those "killer buyers" also buy sound horses to sell privately or take to places local markets are better. i see no shame involved.

My two seem to be coping very well since my mum died recently, but I have to be careful not to say "Mum" or they'll expect to see her. I'm sure they'll never forget her, but do dogs accept that some people just won't come back again?

Our family dog have a problem with its bum:P lol jokes! Well we think she might have a infection or shes allergic to something she itches and must eat off the hair or something because her tail bum, and back of back id bald and it red a swollen and gross!
She possibly is just allergic to fleas or something if she has them but i doubt we'll see the vet cause it's not life threatening. So has anyones bet had this before and can tell me what it is and if there a cheap quern?
THANKS! and Merry Christmas

On most fish profile sites it states that Rosy Barbs grow to 6 inches in the wild, but usually do not exceed 2-4 inches in captivity. I've had 6 for a while (at least 6 months) and they seem to have stopped at 1 3/4 inches. I bought them at about 1 1/2 inches. The tank is 30 gallons and not overstocked so they are not stunted.

My question is, does anyone else have good experience with rosy barbs and their final captivity length? I'm trying to judge how many inches/gallon I have left and it is proving difficult.

I'm ten and is this animal abuse? Okay this guy that lived next door had to dogs one was a adult and one was a puppy. After about two months they began to get REALLY skinny. We called the vet but they would'nt come out to see them. The older dog began to get sick....He died. The little puppy would jump the fence and run over to my house and claw the door just so he could have the a little food. The Puppy also died of hunger. Two or three months later the guy comes home with another puppy. He chained the dog up with a bowl of water and scrapes. When the dog was done with the water and food it didn't get anymore. I gave it food just to keep it alive. Then AGAIN the guy brought home another dog! Now I had to fed two dogs just to keep them from dieing!!!!!!!! The dogs survived because I fed them. Soon after the guy got his house fourclosed so he had to move. He left the dogs there though..... I found them both a home. But I'm just wondering if this is animal abuse.

Where is the best dog training in the Washington D.C. area -- places where you send your dog away to be trained?

We have one cat and ended up having three litter boxes. Unfortunately, he uses all three. Is it possible to remove one successfully without him trying repeatedly to use the area where the box used to be?

We'd rather keep all the boxes than have to deal with an extended period of cat pee in our bathroom (where box #3 is located).

Thanks!

There are a tons of poorly bred dogs out there, but which breed or breeds do you think have suffered the worst fate of having the highest ratio of poorly bred dogs versus dogs that meet the breed standard?

And on the flip-side, which breeds do you think have the highest percent of quality animals?
