Ok. I know what ticks look like, but what about fleas? Are they the same thing?

My Chihuahua doesnt have ticks, but every morning when he wakes up he gets the itch, Everywhere!

He scratches his back his chest area, eyes, face, ears, ***, and tale?

Is it dry skin? Or fleas?

My sister's cat looked as if she was dead last night at 04:00 am. She was cold imobolized and whatever we did to her she didn't move. I woke up by the sound of my sister crying, and yelling that her cat has died. I tried moving her head up and when I released her head it dropped. She was very cold and looked very dead. At 04:30 am when we all gave up on the cat we said that we will go burry her in the morning. Now the cat has awaken and she's playing!!! I wonder if the saying that cats have seven lives is really true????

The trend seems to be that more and more pets are give "people" names, rather than traditonal "pet" names (like Pookie, Browie, Fluffie, Spot, etc.....). I went with the human name trend myself, and named my cats Mickey and Cindy Lou.
My father (among other people) feel strongly that pets are not humans and should be given less formal names, like in past generations. What do you think about this and what are your pet's named, if you have any?

I'm a college student that lives away from home with my family's dog, so our vet is about an hour and a half away. Anyway, my dog's nail cracked, so I was wrapping it with gauze, and putting peroxide/styptic powder on it until I could take him to the vet. This morning, his nail was hanging off, and twisted to the side - it looked painful, though he didn't seem to mind at all. I dropped him off at a vet that I was referred to at 11:30am, and they said they were going to numb him, cut it off, then bandage him up. I didn't think it would take that long, but they told me to leave a number, and to come back. I just called, and they said that they bandaged him up and what not, but that I can pick him up between 5 and 6. It's 1:20pm here, what could they possibly be doing that I can't come and get him? He's a diabetic, so I'm just nervous about him getting some water and food. Also, how much is this going to cost me? (Estimates from prev experience). They said the office visit is $68.

I usually make my pup a special meal for her birthday (chicken, veggies, and a bit of rice, sometimes a bit of pumpkin mixed in if I have it on hand) but I thought I'd make her something special for Christmas this year as well.

I know some people make their own 'dog food' at home. Any good recipes? Do you treat your pups on holidays?

She's small, so making about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup per meal would be enough. I could split it for her morning and night feed if the recipe was for a cup or more (wouldn't she be thrilled!).

I just don't have the time to make her food all the time, but I think this would be a nice treat for Christmas. She gets Canidae kibble the rest of the year.

My one and a half year old female kitten keeps weeing every where if there clothes in front of washing machine or pile of clothes in the ironin basket. We have recently moved but she did this in the previous house as well. There is a clean litter tray everyday so i dont know why she isnt using it. My older female cat which i left at my parents house also does this?! I didnt think female cats were teritorial or my cats are just daft!

Can anyone help or have similar problems?

Thanks in advance.Sam

Has anyone ever seen this website before?

http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruelty_database.php

It is so sad...you can search and read reports of animal abuse based on the type of animal or what happened to the animal. It's horrible. So many horrible people do so many horrible things to animals. Some of the stories even give you a map at the bottom, so you can see how close to home some of this stuff happens.

It's disgusting. What are your feelings on this website and the things you read? What are you doing to help prevent animal cruelty? What experiences do you have with abused animals?

I adopted a dog and the lady @ the agency says I should tie her leash to my belt as I do my chores, etc. all day. She is insecure right now and I don't really feel as if tying her to me will make anything better. She is a small dog, about 5 pounds. Anyone have any experience with this technique?

She is almost 2 and she's a Shepperd Lab mix. I put her through obedience training with Bark Busters and even they were amazed at how hyper she is. The instructors recommended changing her diet. The problem is, I can't remember if they said low protein or low carb food. Low carb makes more sense but I'm pretty sure that they said low protein. I have tried her on many different high quality food, none of that Purina crap, anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

with so many homeless and stray animals - how can you justify breeding and buying from breeders?

So I've had my 20g tank set up for about 7+ weeks now. During this time, I've certainly seen ammonia, which I have to constantly battle to keep below 0.25, but I still have no nitrites. Could it be that my bacteria aren't developing? Why? I've got 4 threadfin rainbows and 4 cory cats, along with a few danios and white clouds, in my tank. I do 25% water changes w/ a siphon every couple of days to try and keep the ammonia down. I have two filters, an in-tank whisper 10 and a hob penguin mini, so I've got 30 gallons of filtration. I'm not overfeeding--I feed a small amount every other day. pH is around 7.2, tempertaure is at 75. Right now, ammonia: 0.25 (time for another water change...sigh) nitrite: 0 nitrate: 0. I use Prime water conditioner, and API test kits--drops, not strips.

Why won't my tank cycle properly? I really don't want my fish to suffer from the ammonia.

She is a ragamuffin and will soon be 12 yrs old. We adopted her when she was about 10. At first she did not demonstrate a problem with the litter box.

The problem is that she does not poop in the box.

She is now confined to the back porch and the behavior continues. The vet thinks it is behavioral. We have tried using two seperate boxes and changed litter brand. The box is far away from her food and water.

While I was waiting to fall asleep a few nights ago, I got to thinking about why people get pets. The next day I formalized it after writing in my Livejournal, and came up with four reasons:
1. Actually petting them, such as most cats (not hairless ones), some dogs, hamsters, mice, chinchillas, etc
2. Playing with them, such as dogs, cats, and ferrets
3. Admiring their beauty, such as with fish, birds, and some especially beautiful cats and dogs
4. Because they're rare, like buying hairless cats, rare breeds of dogs, spiders, and other unusual pets

However, turtles don't seem to fit in with any of those. You can't pet them, can't play with them, they're common and cheap, and pretty ugly. By my four reasons, it would seem no one would ever buy a turtle. But people do, and I'm not quite sure why.

So, why would anyone buy a turtle?
(also, in the same line, turtle owners out there, what posessed you to buy your turtle?)

with a long O, I always thought they were referring to the cattle, and it has just now, after 50+ years that it dawned on me that they, I guess, were talking about the cattle dogs. Is that it? And please don't tell me how stupid I am. I already feel that way!!!

This is an infamous award for hypocrites and those who have nothing better to do than get into other people's business and demand they change their way of life.

I find it interesting that, of the 9 contenders for the award, 4 of them are associated with PETA or HSUS.
