Back in Oct we found a stray dog. We looked for her rightful owner but came up empty. We decided to keep her because we grew very attached and she is now apart of our family. She was just barely pregnant when we found her. She is now at full term, has started nesting as of last night at aprox 6-7pm. She then made her whelping area under my son's crib and has been under there and wont come out since aprox 9-10pm last night. Prior to that she was pacing, shivering, panting and real gaggy. I did some reading and it said that is a sign of labor. It is now 11:05am and nothing. No puppies, and she is still under the crib, will pant and shiver every few mins and then sleep for a few mins. I have read that labor can last 6-12 hours before delivering the first pup, but then read other places that after labor starts it is usually w/in an hr. Im very confused on what to do and it seems that every vet I call for info wont tell me over the phone. Any vets on here that can help me please? Thanks!

It's burrowing near my laundry room, in like a ditch ... I threw a rock, and it stayed there. Then I went in the house, opened the window, and I can see right over him ... I threw a can near his tail, and it growled, but didn't run away !!

A coworker just told me that he is thinking of switching his puppy to raw dog food (as in raw meat). He says he spoke to a salesperson last night and the salesperson thinks it's the best thing ever and his dog will be the healthiest it's ever been.

My coworker suggested I switch my dog as well, but I'm a little uneasy about it. What are the pros & cons of a raw diet for a dog? Do you have any experiences with it?

Thanks! :o)

I just got a new baby kitten from the humane society- she is 13 weeks old but only 1.9 lbs. I brought her home to my other kitten who has been in the house alone with me for 2 months. She is only about 4 weeks older though but much bigger (maybe 5lbs now) and she keeps attacking the new one. The new one doesn't fight back much cuz she is so small but will ocassionally cry or whine a bit. My older kitten gets her in a head lock type move...just want to make sure that she won't hurt or kill her. Is it okay for her to bite this new one so much? I don't know if she is just proving that she was here first or what...I am just worried about the tiny kitten becuase she is so petite and underweight...any advice is helpful! Thanks

While I was on my way back home from the store, I got a call from my Mom, telling me that he'd broken off his tie-out when the mailman passed (he doesn't like the mailman) and run down the street into the field. The kid across the street - who has never had any contact with him - went after him and led him back into the yard by his leash. Apparently, when the child reached for the door knob to open the front door, the dog went into protective mode and nipped him on the back of his hand. I came home immediately, not knowing the whole story, thinking that he'd killed the boy. My father was holding the dog on the porch by the rest of his leash. I was relieved, and checked on the boy (I'll call him Brian, since I don't like saying 'the boy'). Well, Brian's little sister said that he was okay, but that their mom was coming from work to bring him to the doctor. Still shaking, I looked down the street and saw Brian walking toward us. I went up to him and asked him how he was. He

He's had all of his shots, including wormer treatments, heart worm prevention, flea and allergy treatment. This is not a side effect of any medication. He has been throwing up off and on. He does not eat human food, regularly. He is not used to it. The first time this happened, my dad had fed him turkey meat from Thanksgiving. He was sick for two days, but was fine after.
We have two other dogs, who are used to human food, and are not sick at all.
Last night, we came home to a mess. There also hadn't been anyone home, for an hour or so. We cleaned it all, he still acted fine... we left and came home a few hours later to an even larger mess. He uses the restroom outside, and was crate trained, and doesn't have accidents in the house.
1. Should I still be feeding puppy formula dog food? We have fed him the same brand since we got him, but we recently switch from Puppy formula (Healthy Growth for puppies) to Original. (All Beneful)
2. Could this be a nervous issue?

Can you bathe you dog several days after giving him a topical flea/heartworn treatment or do the meds wash off?

My girl is now 3 yrs old. Getting ready to go into season. She finished her championship on her 3rd birthday and got her CGC to boot!. We have done all her testing. Heart Good, Hips & elbows Good. Cerf good and good angles. Thyroid good. The Ch Stud is also cleared of health issues.

OK here comes the questions. We are going to use the Handler we used for comformation to help facilitate the breeding but if my girl is ripe when she is at shows then it lays on our shoulders.
My girl is very clingy to me and my husband so should we just send her off to the studs house and hope for the best or should we have the stud come here where I have another friend who is a retired breeder for giant schnausers who will be able to help except for doing an AI if needed.

Another Question, should we test both dogs for brusselousis if neither of them have ever bred before?

and just one more:
The stud is on antibiotics and prednisone will this effect his fertility?

Thanks for your help.

I have a one and a half year old hermanns and I am confused about uvb requirement. Does this species have a 'high' or 'very high' requirement? Should I be using a Repti Glo 5 or 10? The tube is positioned approx 12" away from the tortoise.

I'm being told different things by different people and books! I want to simulate the natural environment but the 5.0 states it's for tropical reptiles, whereas the 10 is for desert! Help would be appreciated! thanks in advance.

my puppy used to be very quiet, but nowadays, he barks if we don't give him our attention, he barks if we don't give him food while we're eating etc. recently i have had to spend all my time at home due to illness and studies, so maybe he is becoming a bit too comfortable with me and starting to bully me a bit. whatever it is, it has to stop because my neighbours are obviously unhappy with it. what is the best way to teach him to stop barking every time he doesnt get what he wants? i am considering buying lemon spray, but wish to avoid that for the time being if possible, but if there is no other option then it will have to be that.

You hear more and more stroies regarding maulings by these vicious animals. I think it's time they were all destroyed as owners cannot be trusted nor can keep them under control when they "turn".

Any Dog that harms a Human Being should firstly be destroyed, then have a minimum prison sentence of 6 months for the owner.
