There's several places you can find ferrets. If you want a kit, then check your local pet shops. Petsmart is the only one that I know for sure that does NOT have ferrets. From things I've read on here, I believe Petco does have them. If age doesn't matter and/or you want to help a rescue ferret, search online for some ferret shelters in your area. http://www.petfinder.com lists ferrets available for adoption through shelters, so check on there, too. Last place to look for ferrets - in the ads of your local paper. I know I've seen several listings in my paper in the past for people giving away their ferrets.

If you're new to the ferret world, a kit might be better only because most ferrets found in shelters are older and dealing with illnesses that require a good bit of knowledge to deal with. Also, some shelters might be a little hesitant to adopt out a ferret to someone with no experience. I'm not trying to turn you off of the idea of checking a shelter, I think helping rescue ferrets is a great thing to do, I'm just going based on personal experience. However, if you're interested in a ferret that's more mellow and not quite so hyper, then an older one would be better. Older ones are usually out of the nipping phase, too (as long as they were trained when younger).

Your best bet is to ask around the rural communities - ferrets are usually handed on to new owners by word of mouth.

Local pet shops usually have them. Sometimes people place ads in your local newspaper.

Well search local petshops and call them if they have them. We had to go to Reno to get both of ours because they are illegal in Calfornia
