I've heard that bones can chip their teeth and get stuck in their stomach.

The best bone to get is go to the butcher and ask for a femur bone you want it about twice the length of your dogs nose. Boil it for about a 1/2 hour & let cool. Chicken and pork bones splinter. Femur bone is great for there teeth, for 20 plus yrs. I've done this and no problems. Pork and Chicken bones I have seen puncher holes in the stomach, intestines and cause blockages. They may once in a while break a piece off but through it out. Most don't break teeth, but it's possible. I also after several months reboil and you can stuff them with a small amount of peanut butter or cheese. Even when reboiling I boil in chicken broth or beef. This is something with the two yrs. at the animal shelter we would do as well, again no problems. I'm sure someone has, but in most cases your good.

My own and some shelter dogs when given raw caused vomiting and diarrhea. So far haven't found this with the boil bone.

Cooked bones are very dangerous because they become brittle and make nice sharp points when split. Uncooked bones are safe to chew but can get really Stinky if you leave them for very long. I will give my dogs, one piece of raw chicken each week and they do love it. (a wing, or breast- I sill don't trust the leg)

Occasionally, I get them a big leg bone from the butcher and cut off excess fat and let them have it for the day. Such joy! Then bundle it up and discard. Some times I feel like I'm disposing of a body part, trying to find a dumpster to put in a well wrapped, leg bone.

Steak bones are the safest bones to give a dog & it's great on removing tartar from their teeth, & can make their breath smell better. Never give your dog chicken or turkey bones, as they are soft & can splinter, thus causing real problems.

dont give your dog turkey bones or chicken bones the can splinter and get caught in your dog's throat. Rawhides are okay, but the have a chemical in them that can cause cancer. Nyla bones are good, but if your dog chokes on them, they will not appear on an x-ray. I recomend Kong toys more than bones.

Cooked beef and pork bones are great and excellent for the dog's teeth, do not give them chicken bones (or any bird bones for that matter). Because of the physical structure of avian bones, they split easy and create sharp ends that may injure the dog internally.

Any bones apart from chicken bones as they splint and can harm your dog :-(
Go to a butchers and ask for a marrow bone, your dog will LOVE it.
Dont worry, your dogs teeth are a lot tougher than ours :-)

Bones that do not shatter are very good for a dog. Most dogs chew naturally; it cleans their teeth.
Small bones and bones that can shatter (like chicken, turkey) are not a good idea.

RAW bones only, never give a cooked bone.

Raw, meaty soup bones from the butcher or deli are cheap, and great for your dogs teeth, and keep them occupied for hours.

If you do decide to feed bones, never give cooked bones, only raw. Cooked bones are more likely to splinter and impact in the intestinal tract.

I give my dog Beef bones, and buffalo bones. He loves the marrow, i haven't ever had a problem with it. However if you are worried, just give it to her when you can supervise her, and pick it up when you can't and don't let it get to old, or it will splinter.
