How does your dad feel about giving humans pet names? I call my husband Pookie.
Personally, I name my animals with what fits them. I currently have a Peanut, Toby, Gidget, and Sami.
But how much does it really matter? If that was my dad, I'd name my next pet after him, as a show of love and respect, and of course, just to annoy him.
At the shelter where I volunteer - we have to give each animal a name and it goes in trends, sometimes we use countries and cities - Cayman, Chad, Knoxville and sometimes we use cheeses - Cheddar, Swissy, Bleu, Colby, Pepper Jack.
But they all have the same middle name - Ann. Even the boys. Cheddar Ann, Pepper Ann, Jack Ann.
I don't think anyone should really care what anyone else names their pet, as long as it's not offensive when shouted in public. - Like if you name your dog - d*mmit - you'd be calling - Come Here, d*mmit! D*mmit, Come Here! Which just isn't right.

I think that a name is simply a name, and it doesn't matter whether it's made up, or unusual, or a regular human name and your father needs to get over it. ;)
My animals all have names that have meaning behind them, which makes their names more special to me. My guinea pig, Ziggy, is a big, black, fluffy boy, and he remind me of my close friend's chow who recently died of cancer. His name was Ziggy.
My Chinese Water Dragon, is Sirius George. And yes, I spelled that the way I mean it to be. When I first got him, his name was simply George - someone else had name him and his brother Fred and George (from harry Potter). I thought George wasn't really my style, so I told my friend who had named him that I would change his name to something else from Harry Potter. I decided Sirius, since that's my favorite character. But she was upset that I was changing his name, so I kept George as his middle name. So he is now Sirius George. (Which sounds like serious George, and makes a lot of people laugh XD)
Last, but not least, my cat Xia, whom is a quarter bobcat, and has a beautiful orangey glow to her. Xia means glow of the sunrise.
Thanks for reading, and obviously my point was the names are meant to matter to the person who gives them, nothing else. And anyone who has a problem with that...well...too bad.

one in all my canine has a cliche call, Snow. yet, that has a narrative variety of we did no longer only choose, oh we ought to continuously call her Snow. She grew to become into born on the 1st snow of the twelve months and that i grew to become into little and he or she grew to become into the only female and that i might continuously take her and play along with her and that i observed as her Snow toddler so my mom and dad only took off the toddler yet we nonetheless call her Snow toddler lots. My 2 boy canine, Jess and Beau, have human names that i like. We have been going to call Jess Jesse yet my dad had to apply him for looking and he did no longer think of that sounded "manly" sufficient lol, yet that by no ability worked out, he's only too scared and candy to wreck something :). We nonetheless call him Jesse And my previous canine that died grew to become into named Kacie. Oh, and we had a Miska (Althogh i'm unsure the way it grew to become into spelled) yet we gave her to a girl that grew to become into searching for a canine that my mom worked with that works on the keep down the line :(, she's Noire's sister :D Oh sure, and that i like the two human names or names that have a meaning in a diverse language :) Sorry I wrote lots lol :p =]
