Is this a new craze? it could be the sickest thing ive heard in a while. Almost as sick as getting dogs voice boxes removed so they can't bark. Taking away that animals rights to behave in a way that is normal and natural is absolutely absurd. It is up to the pet owner to decide whether their home is suitable for a cat (ohh i love my antique furniture too much or i live in a rented apartment, the landlord would be annoyed if the cat scratched the carpet/doorframe etc). It is not up to us to remove their body parts. Anyone who does this and replies to this qwuestion is sighning up for some abuse, courtesy of me, sorry!

Do you belive theres a proper way to breed dogs and that there should be breeders in the world?

Some people belive that there should be no breeders that we should All Adopt.. i do adopt but i also breed for this reason... to keep Healthy blood lines going... think of this.. what happens what all the dogs at shelters are found homes.. and all the other dogs are fixed... Then what? we lose our dogs.. or mutts (not as a bad term) who havent been fixed are now used.. with bloodlines, not impure.. but unknown.. Good breeders Check the bloodlines and strive to breed Out bad heretitary problems...

There are also people every day wanting to breed... and get yelled at about wanting to... what if there was someone to Teach them the Correct way to breed?

Please think of this before you answer...

She is a mini dachshund, and she is only 4 months old. I rescued her brother and her two months ago. They have never been apart, and, at night, they sleep in their crate together. I just this morning realized that she began her first estrous cycle! I was just at the vet's a couple weeks ago, and he told me to bring them in to be spayed and neutered when they were six months old. I haven't noticed any mating, but they were crated together all night. She may already be pregnant. I plan to call the vet in the morning, but I was reading online that most vets won't do a spay while a dog is in heat. Is that true? I know I can get the male neutered, but what if the damage is already done? Am I stuck with puppies? Isn't she too young to have puppies? My friend told me they would spay her even if she is pregnant, but that just seems wrong considering they wouldn't spay her two weeks ago because she was too small. She weighs less than six pounds. What should I do?

okay, so i was in new york city for thanks giving (wednesday-friday) so on friday before i left i saw some kittens up for adoption infront of barnes and noble in new york and i got one and the guy said he was 3 and a half months which i think is bull because the kittens small as hell. and so we took him home and on the way home we thought his belly looked rather large and he looked rather small and skinny, so i thought u know maybe hes got worms which we found out today he does so when we got home last night we fed him kitten wet food and he ate a hole can same in the morning so by now we know hes got worms so we took him to the vet this morning and they gave us meds but last night my dog came in the room and ate some of the kitten food after the kitten had eaten some, now i know that my dog can only get worms if an egg got into her or a worm, i have dog dewormer meds but i don't know if she got worms or not and i need to know if its dangerous to give her meds if she doesnt hav worms.

This is one of them questions which people get heated about. I know it's safer to keep cats inside but my vet (and many other vets i've spoke to) believes that cats are hunters and they belong in the outdoors... but if my cat has never seen the outdoor world he wont know any different...right?
What do you think????

Another bird ID question. :-)

This bird has been hanging in a pile of leaves in my front yard all morning. I've never seen one like this in my 'hood, so I'm wondering what it is. Here's what I can see:

He's larger than a sparrow but slightly smaller than, say, a mourning dove;
He's buff-brown in color (like a mourning dove) but he has dark markings on his back;
He has large black eyes and dark markings on top of his head;
He has a long bill, like a shorebird. It might be curved down. He also appears to have a short tail;
I only saw him walk briefly, but he doesn't appear to have long legs or webbed feet.

I don't know if the bird is an adult of a juvenile. I also don't know if it's male or female.

The bird looks sort of like a sandpiper or something like that to me. I don't live anywhere near water (I'm in the Phila. burbs), so I guess he's just passing thru on his way to nicer pastures.

Any guesses? Thanks.

I'm thinking of a dorm room pet, other people at my school have cats, lizards and I think I've even seen a dog in campus housing before.

Now which would be the best to have, I currently have a pet scorpion in a 5 and half gallon tank, could I keep one of them in it?

Which do you think is the best to have?

My kitty is 9 months old now. He's a ragdoll and he's really sweet. The breeder asked me to neuter him but I am worried that that will change his personality.. He's really kittenish and adorable right now..

It's between dove- and duck-sized, has a light gray body and dark gray feathers, and a brown head. It's feathers stick out behind its body, and end in a point. Someone said that it might be a quail, but it doesn't have that familiar little doo-hickey on its head. We live in Illinois. On top of that, it's been sitting in the same spot for a while, occasionally bending down to peck at the ground.

ok i want to make an ecosphere(for those of you who dont know what that is, its a self contained ecosystem that requires no care except for proper lighting) ive seen them at brookstone with shrimp in them but i wanna go a step further and add fish. the problem is that i need fish that will be able to survive and multiply slowly in a small place(i was thinking zebra danios or guppys) but then i need something to keep the population down like a top predator so it doesnt get out of hand and they all die cause that would be bad. but hen i also need something to keep the pradator in check so it doesnt kill them all. i would also add some shrimp, snails, assort. amphipods and plants. and the container would be like either a very large glass jar or i was thinking maybe a 10gal water jug but the container has to be air tight so if you guys could help with some ideas for all of this stuff then please let me know...its more of an experiment than a pet

I buy fancy catnip mice, mice that vibrate and do tricks and Iggy totally ignores them. What does he play with? a brown paper bag, twistie ties from bread wrappers and the plastic rings from milk jugs! sheesh!

He has the chance of another Macaw, also male but red (scarlet). He has been told that by introducing the other parrot to the cage it will stop the first one squawking.
Question is will it?
Also, is it a good idea to get the second parrot anyway?
If it is not a good idea, then how does he stop the first one from being so noisy?

We got a miniature Pomeranian a few months ago, and he was really expensive. We took really good care of him at first, and now my mom doesn't care about him at all. She threw him outside in the yard and keeps him chained up. It's so sad. She never bathes him, hardly feeds him, and refuses to try and potty train him and bring him in. It's horrible. But she won't give him to someone who will take good care of him because my dad doesn't want to. It makes me so mad and I feel so bad about the poor dog. I don't understand why my parents want to keep him around when they don't give a damn about him. We've already had two people offer to take him off her hands, and she just keeps him. I really want to do something about it, but I don't know what to do.

I feel so bad because the dog is outside 24/7 in the freezing cold. How do I convince her to let me take care of him or give him away to someone who will?
