Do you belive theres a proper way to breed dogs and that there should be breeders in the world?

Some people belive that there should be no breeders that we should All Adopt.. i do adopt but i also breed for this reason... to keep Healthy blood lines going... think of this.. what happens what all the dogs at shelters are found homes.. and all the other dogs are fixed... Then what? we lose our dogs.. or mutts (not as a bad term) who havent been fixed are now used.. with bloodlines, not impure.. but unknown.. Good breeders Check the bloodlines and strive to breed Out bad heretitary problems...

There are also people every day wanting to breed... and get yelled at about wanting to... what if there was someone to Teach them the Correct way to breed?

Please think of this before you answer...

i have to add about dog show breeders... sometimes they only breed for show.. not for anything else, such as temperment, or health.. all SOME key word Some breeders do is look for a champion to champion. thouse im my opinion and a lot of other peopels opinion are Not good dogs... a puppy needs to be soclized Correctly before they go home.. or else your going to have a LOT of work ahead of you and possibly diffrent dog then what they should be.

i would liek to say about the breeder thing i know Multipul breeders. my family bought a pug from one of the best breeders at that time... we let her know we intended to show then breed. she agreed... we showed, ch her then started to try and breed... she wouldnt take.. so we went to spay her, our vet as she spayed her the First thing out of her mouth was Who did we get this dog from? we told her and she told us she had told the breeder to STOP that line, because its a hereditaty desiese that is in that line.. and refused her a certificate of health... obviously she went to a diffrent vet...

Another breeder of top quality shelties... we bought the pup, and as she came home problems started showing... socolization problems... we started talking to the lady more.. she NEVER let Anyone touch her dogs... never took them outside or in a car... the dog now is in a diffrent good home.. but she cant go outside w/o Cr*ping or peeing also cant go in the car.. and tries to Kill there cats...

Good breeding includes checking the parents and bloodlines for problems, taking the Time to soclolize them properly, to find Good homes for them.. if you went and Looked at my site you'd see that instead of critisizing me becaue of what you "think" theres good and bad to Everything.. Including show quality breeders. WE've also breed elkhounds, 2 litters, and the breeder (top breeder Again at the time) ddint tell us hip dyspasia was in the line.. mind this was Many years ago.. we wernt able to test much... the male got hip dysplasia at a young age, as soon as we found ot we fixed him and warned all our puppy owners. Thank you

As long as they are breeding responsibly, I don't believe they need to stop. With that being said, all those irresponsible backyard breeders need to realize there's a lot more to breeding than sticking two dogs together and producing cute little puppies.

I believe in adoption, but if someone finds a good breeder, there's nothing wrong with that. You'll know exactly what you're getting when you find a responsible breeder.

You said yourself there are people every day wanting to breed. The very next day, they could want to be a rock star! They only think they want to breed for their own selfish reasons. Yes, they CAN breed but they shouldn't unless they do years of research, meet and speak with other breeders, show their dogs, are dedicated to the breed and improving it, willing to complete all health and genetic tests, etc. I have no problem teaching people what they should do BEFORE breeding, but I absolutely hate when people come on here and say "my dog had puppies last night. what do i do?", "my mixed breed is beautiful. i want to breed her", "i only want to have one litter", "my dog is pregnant. what do i do?", "can i let my lab and poodle breed?", etc. The point is, half the people who say they want to breed aren't prepared for the responsibility in the least bit. I, myself, know a few things about breeding, often more than those who claim they know what they're doing and want to breed, but I DO NOT want to breed dogs. I know how much it takes. I do not have the extensive knowledge, dedication, or time to take the appropriate measures to ensure the litters produced are top quality. Yes, I could always go out and breed Fido and Fluffy, but I choose not to. There are hundreds upon hundreds of dogs sitting in shelters right at this very moment, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of irresponsible backyard breeders breeding their dogs. I don't want to contribute to something like that.

Most people do not understand how much it takes to produce a good litter, nor do they realize how much time and money is put into a litter. They just think "oh! a boy and a girl can make puppies! i want cute little puppies and i can find them good homes". The truth is, when those irresponsible breeders find their puppies a new home, they rob a home away from a much more deserving puppy in a shelter. Some puppies grow up in a shelter and don't what it's like to have a family.

If there were more people, like you, wanting to educate people BEFORE they decide to breed their dogs and if there were more people willing to learn BEFORE breeding, there would be less dogs sitting in shelters right now.

I really have to disagree with alot of what you have said here. I don't think you did much research before you made your claims.
First of all, there is NO way any show breeder is going to not breed for optimum health. What would be the point? The dog would be useless as a stud or breeding female to produce more champions. I think you are talking out of the side of your mouth on that one.
Secondly, many show breeders sell pet quality dogs. They assess a litter and decide if a dog is going to be show quality or not. Some of the litter may be sold as pets. That being said, top show breeders are also not producing multiple litters every year, either, so they are doing their part to control the pet population and keep it healthy.
I would be interested to know what you think is healthy breeding quality, because you got the whole show breeder thing so wrong.
I challenge you to give me a drop dead date that all shelter dogs would have a home if everyone stopped breeding, because that is a load of cr** as well. You would have to add to the current count all the animals who are euthanized daily to make room for the incoming.
Your entire post sounds more like a bad excuse to breed whatever you want without any thought to the results. You can certainly start a group for "breeders", but the people who get "jumped on" on this site are the ones who should NEVER breed their dogs, whether they know how or not. Their motives are ridiculous and they don't start with good breeding quality to begin with.
I am not at all against breeding purebred dogs. I am vehemently against those who purposely breed mutts, call them stupid fad names to get more $$$ for them, and claim they are what they are not. I am also against people who breed solely to make money. That makes you a dog wh*** who has no thought or caring about the animals you breed.
Those who are naive enough to think they need to breed their dog because it is such an awesome dog and they want another just like it are deluding themselves-there is NO SUCH chance. That's like having another baby because you want a kid just like the last one-completely impossible.
I think you need to go back to the drawing board on this one and do quite a bit more research. You need to find some facts to back up your claims-if you can.
In the meantime, I will just continue to try to save as many abandoned dogs as I can in my spare time, which would be a much more responsible occupation of your time, as well.
Then you can talk about the right to breed.

Well the problem is that most of the dogs in the shelter that die every day were bred by someone. If only responsible breeders that want to enhance bloodlines existed we'd have a much smaller population. I want to stop backyard breeding but if you're doing great things for the breed, it's OK with me.

There are needs for good breeders. I personally would not want to see our purebred dogs die off because people no longer breed. The key is tho to preserve and improove.. not just to simply make more!

We also need breeders who are breeding working dogs. Certain temperments and drives are needed, and you cannot always find that in a shelter dog!

Between rescues/shelters, people breeding working dogs, and people breeding for show, there are still plenty of "pet" dogs available. Not every single puppy in a well-bred litter will be cut out for the show ring, or to be a working dog.

Good breeding includes, showing/working and earning titles on the dogs to proove that they meet standard, and/or are capable of doing the job they were bred to do, breeding for temperment, genetic health testing to assure healthy stock, socialization fof the puppies to assure success in their futures as pets. Any dog that does not fit standad, or cannot perfom the task is spayed/netered. Any dog that does not have the proper temperment for the breed is spayed/neutered. Any dog found to have a genetic disease is spayed/neutered.

If someone is not doing all of the above, they are not reputable.

I believe there's a proper way. Many, however, aren't interested in learning the right way, they want to know when to stick the dogs together for puppies. I think that learning to breed should also involve mentors that new breeders can actually go to and be hands-on with the breeding, whelping, etc. We learn by doing.

I agree with your mission, but have to stick up for the show breeders. The reason I recommend showing or "working" with dogs is so that dogs who can prove their utility are bred, not just pretty but mentally absent dogs. It's not all for "show," it's also about the willingness to do something with the dog. If someone is willing to pay to show his or her dog to a championship, that's definitely a step in the right direction if you ask me.

I agree with you...a lot of people on here don't even think about the question if it says breeding they immediately attack. I once read a question about a guy asking how to start a kennel and breeding...he wanted to know how to go about it the proper way not just throw to dogs together and let them do the deed and not one person would give him a real answer they treated him like he was asking how do I breed my one toy breed to this other toy breed...talk about helpful...so yes to people wanting to really get into it the right way some insight without being brow beaten would be great.

In the pet world there is no need to breed because there are too many dogs out there already. Most of your responsible breeders are dog show people and are mostly responsible breeders. Breeding is not a hobby and should not be approached that way!!!!!!!!!!!
