We got a miniature Pomeranian a few months ago, and he was really expensive. We took really good care of him at first, and now my mom doesn't care about him at all. She threw him outside in the yard and keeps him chained up. It's so sad. She never bathes him, hardly feeds him, and refuses to try and potty train him and bring him in. It's horrible. But she won't give him to someone who will take good care of him because my dad doesn't want to. It makes me so mad and I feel so bad about the poor dog. I don't understand why my parents want to keep him around when they don't give a damn about him. We've already had two people offer to take him off her hands, and she just keeps him. I really want to do something about it, but I don't know what to do.

I feel so bad because the dog is outside 24/7 in the freezing cold. How do I convince her to let me take care of him or give him away to someone who will?

Trust me, I know my mom is crazy. She makes me want to rip my hair out. But that's another story.

This is something that really irritates me about irresponsible dog owners. I understand your concern. Could you talk to your parents and tell them YOU will take care of the dog? It sounds like your mother is getting sick of the work....if you offered to do the work, maybe your parents would agree to let him back in the house if you stepped in and took on the responsibility?

Sometimes, kids are more adult-like than adults. It's unfortunate when kids have to be, as in your situation. What you are doing, by reaching out to help your dog is the right thing to do.

I don't know where you live, but I would contact animal control, the SPCA, or the Humane Society (it depends on your city). You can report them, and hopefully someone will come to your home and inspect the conditions. Dogs must be care for properly, and this would entail feeding them, and dogs left outside must have proper shelter. They could get a warning or a fine. This might be enough to make your parents decide either to take care of him, or find a new home for him.

Try talking to another adult about the situation, like a teacher or a counselor.

Best of luck.

Try sitting your parents down and telling them if they're not going to care for the dog, then they shouldn't keep him. The conditions they are keeping him in are cruel, and if someone found out, they could be charged with animal cruelty. Hardly feeding him is not providing food and water. Keeping him chained up in the yard is not providing adequate shelter. not bathing him and trying to potty train him is nothing but neglect. If they don't care about him, why do they want to keep him? If they won't take the time to train him, why are they keeping him for their own selfish reasons?

A dog is like a child. Ask them if they would throw you outside if they got tired of you. Try telling them that there are people who want to care for him and could give him a good home where he'll be INSIDE and not chained up outside. It's far too cold to be keeping a small dog outside 24/7. My cousin has a Chihuahua and he gets cold just going out to potty for 10 minutes.

To be honest, I wouldn't ask your parents if you could care for him. If they don't care about him now, they probably won't provide any vet care later on even if you do train him, feed him, and let him in the house. Just try reasoning with them to find a good home for him. He would no longer be a burden and they wouldn't be neglecting him.

I do agree with others saying report it, but if you decide to do that, it could cause more problems if your parents find out it was you. Of course, you could always anonymously report it to get someone out to see how your dog isn't being cared for. That is no way for a dog to live, and it's not his fault he hasn't been trained.

and what's stopping you form doing the dogs ' care and training?? just do it ! does it have a proper dog house? for winter you need a well insulated one with straw so the dogs can make a bed.also a lap dog is not for out side. bring it in at night and it can stay on the chain for a while to get it accustomed to cold ( so it grows a winter coat) . but it should be able to come in when it's freezing out.
Just tell your mom you will take care of the dog..show how responsible you are. check out some dog training books from the library search the net.. just get up and do it.. also make sure the dogs is spayed and has it's shots

You can't leave a small dog like that outside 24/7...eventuall he won't be around any more. You should take the dog to someone who offered when your parents aren't there and when they find out he's gone ...tell him exactly what you said here about him being outside and not being taken care of properly. You may get in some trouble but it's better for the dog.

aww I feel bad for your dog too! Thats cruel to leave a dog outside 24/7 without attention and love and food and water.

Maybe you can bring the dog inside when your mom is not home and you are then you can feed it and love it and play with it.

If you can't you could call the animal control or spca and see what they say.

Then make sure your mom doesn't ever get another dog.

Tell your mom a dog is not a toy you play with whenever you want its a lifetime commitment.

Just take it, leave the collar attached to the chain so it looks like it slipped it's collar and find it a good home..
I wouldn't normally say that, normally I think everyone should be given a chance.. But, it's young and could find a great home quickly.. I think your mom just didn't understand what owning a dog entailed and needs to be saved from herself.. she probably won't even go looking for it..

Those are great answers- if you are scared of reporting and you know she will hurt or abuse you in retiliation atleast let the poor dog free or make arrangements to hand it off to someone interested and you know will take care of him- This is cruel and you will kick yourself everyday you continue to watch it go on- This animal has no voice and cannot communicate the hunger and saddness it feels. The weather will only get worse so please do something before it's too late.

I don't know about your mom. But if I were you, I'll take (sneakingly) the dog and give it to a more caring person someone your mother doesn't know.
Yeah, she'll be mad but that won't last long. It's for the sake of the dog anyways.
Same thing happened to me also. Fortunately, my aunt decided to take care of our dog.

you take care of your puppy, then!
he wont be around much longer if you keep him chained up and don't help him. especially since he's such a small puppy.

run outside often and feed him, maybe make him a cozy shelter/cage with blankets outside (because its getting colder), have water outside for him to drink, stuff like that.

small dogs like pomeranians aren't supposed to be kept outside for too long, so take him inside at night. maybe bring him to your room or something
if your mom doesn't allow it, at least lay out some blankets for him.

just tell your mom that your puppy isn't going to live for much longer if she treats him like that, and take care of him yourself

goodluck!
