okay, so i was in new york city for thanks giving (wednesday-friday) so on friday before i left i saw some kittens up for adoption infront of barnes and noble in new york and i got one and the guy said he was 3 and a half months which i think is bull because the kittens small as hell. and so we took him home and on the way home we thought his belly looked rather large and he looked rather small and skinny, so i thought u know maybe hes got worms which we found out today he does so when we got home last night we fed him kitten wet food and he ate a hole can same in the morning so by now we know hes got worms so we took him to the vet this morning and they gave us meds but last night my dog came in the room and ate some of the kitten food after the kitten had eaten some, now i know that my dog can only get worms if an egg got into her or a worm, i have dog dewormer meds but i don't know if she got worms or not and i need to know if its dangerous to give her meds if she doesnt hav worms.

the wormer is one that we bought from the main office in the vets, its two rather large pills in a card board and plastic packge, and it gets ride of all parasites *please excuse the spelling*

Do NOT give her medicine designed for another species; it could be more toxic than the worms.

There are no worms in the canned cat food. The worms are in the kitten! If your dog ate some canned food, he shouldn't have a problem. But if you are having questions, why haven't you picked up the phone and asked your VET?! NOT unqualified strangers on the internet who have not only never seen your dog, but never examined him either!

Babble much?

If it's a dewormer the vet gave you, it's quite safe even if she doesn't have worms. You're supposed to deworm dogs regularly anyway, to prevent worms. You also need to deworm your cat - obviously don't use the dog wormer, get your vet to give you one for the cat.

Obviously the vet would not have given you any meds that might be dangerous for your dog now, would they?

HI there
and to answer your question, your dog cannot get worms from eating the kitten's food. But can possibly injest them if he /she eats the cat's poop so becareful where you place the litter pan. I would not give her the meds unless you need them no reason to overmedicate your dog. Your will only know if your dog has worms if you take a stool sample to your vet and they do a fecal.

It depends on the type of meds: If it is a mild type of wormer, (for roundworms or something) then it won't hurt her. But if is made for a more serious type of worms, it could possibly hurt her. Definitely call your vet and ask before giving her any kind of medication.

I think you should probably ask your vet. It might be dangerous if ur dog doesnt have worms and u give it the meds.
