If so, does it work? What's the dosage? Are there any adverse side effects?

Yeah I've heard of it all right (It's Brewer's yeast). It doesn't work - don't waste your time! Just get some proper, safe flea treatment from a vet, like Frontline.

Oh - and NEVER accept dosage advice from people on the internet!!

Brewer's yeast and Garlic tabs have been effective for my dogs. I only use Advantage once or twice a year. The rest of flea season I use the tabs along with a natural Neem spray to help repel fleas. Alot healthier than topical pesticides every month. Also, I use Doc Akerman's Botanical flea and tick shampoo if they do pick them up while we're hiking, etc..
ADDED: Chalice- I am certified in Companion Animal Nutrition, something most vets and techs know little about (not saying you don't...) Brewer's Yeast DOES work. I have used it for years and NEVER had flea problems. Twice a year MAX I apply a topical as a preventative, but other than thet, neem oil and brewer;s yeast WORK

Flea collars do not work well. The chemical does not spread effectively all over the dog. Get Frontline or Advantix if you have a problem. My dog never had fleas in Idaho, but not that we live in a warm wet climate it is terrible. the fleas acutally spend most of their lifecycle off of the dog. The live in carpets, bedding. cracks and crevices and in soil. You need to wash the bedding, vaccum and treat the rugs. If that does not cure it, then you need to consider treating the backyard. Frontline will interrupt the life cycle, so flea populations in the home will decrease, as well as on the dog.

Doesn't work. The only thing that really does is Advantage or Frontline Plus. There are no good home remedies that effectively keep them away for very long and fleas are really harmful to your dog, so it's worth using the good stuff.

its brewers yeast not bakers yeast. feeding your dog bakers yeast can kill it, because it expands and can ferment.

DO NOT FEED YOUR DOG BAKERS YEAST.
