Hi! A friend recenty gave me a 10 gallon tank with about 40 tetras and 6 other various fish. The tank was filthy when I got it so I cleaned it up and changed out 1/2 the water. I went to the pet store and bought a gravel vacumm. I use a water treatment that I got from the pet store but the tank is now even worse. It seems that everytime I try to clean it up, it just makes it worse because I have stirred up the gravel at the bottom. The tank has a heater but no filter. Should I get a filter? what kind? how can I better clean the gravel? Help! I have no experience with fish but have a two year old that already loves to watch them!

I am stuck with a fish tank that has two small oscars and two goldfish, and one of those heck, I don't know what they are called, they clean the crap at the bottom of the tank and on the glass. Well, I just bought a heater for them and I am not sure what the water temperature should be. I think its a 20 gallon tank. Heck, I don't know. I want to go drop the tank on the jerk's front porch but I do like the fish? Ok, someone please tell me, what is the proper temperature?

ok well i have a lovely cockatiel. tonight he has been really attached to me! he still will not sit on my hand or finger! he loves me im pretty sure because he gets upset when i leave the room or when im not right next to is cage. he really loves to get his treats every night out of my hand. i dont get why he still wont sit on my hand! does anyone have any advice how to get him to? i dont really think hes too scared, i just think that he may be kinda bossy or picky. he really acts different when im around than when my mom or my sis is around. when my mom puts her hand in his cage his flies everywhere and gets really upset but if i stick my hand in there he acts normal and just kinda looks at my hand. but you know if i get too close he tries to bite and runs away. the only time that he wont try to bite my hand is when i have the treat. so please give me your advice on how to hand tame him.

I want to know is it normal for 2 and a half weeks old puppies to sleep a lot, they wake up drink milk and then sleep , and sleep don't they play or something all they do is sleep all day, please tell me, at how many weeks do they start to walk around and play

Like goldfish that are in tanks are usually pretty small.

Whereas goldfish you sometimes see in
larger ponds are sometimes very big. I saw some recently in an outdoor pond that looked to be about a foot long or so.

Anybody know why this is? Thanks.

seems kind of sluggish, and not as active these days. I think he eats, but he doesn't eat all. I don't really see him that much but maybe that's because he's nocturnal? He seems to be in his cave/home thing a lot more nowadays. He's around five years old?

Today as I was walking to my car out side of the a library, I saw a wild dove being traumatised in the middle of the parking lot. If it was to be left at that spot a car would have kill it after awahile. I could tell the dove was in pain and couldn't even fly. I got a wool jacket that I had in my car, and got close to the dove and I picked it up from its wings and placed it under the tree.
I then left to go to the post office to mail some important documents.
I asked the clerk if she knows if there is a bird or animal rescue in the town...she had no idea!
I called up my brother Christopher to ask the same question...
He said to call the non-emergensy police line and ask...of course I didn't call them because I felt that they might think I am nuts or I am loosing it.
I then went to my house which is 3 blocks way from the library picked up a shoe box I had, threw some crackers in there and run out the door. When I got there the dove was DEAD...I froze and cried...

He gets on my leg and starts biting it. And bites a lot!
He doesn't pee when i take him outside he goes inside next second pee and poop on the floor!
When I take him to the vet he starts barking at all the other dogs!
He's a 2 and a half moth old poodle.
How can I get him to behave better?

my dog is so annoying sometimes. we have never used the crate for punishment....its where he sleeps at night. but lately he has decided the crate is not for him. when we tell him to come, he won't. i always take him outside right before he goes to bed. and he just wont come in the house, he makes us chase him around.

we have decided that we will start to keep a short leash on him so he respects us, and knows that he comes when we say come....do you think this is a good idea?

any advice would be great.

Do you think that most pit bulls turn out to be really mean , and aggersive , because me and my mother were at a shelter , because we wanted to adopt a dog. So we saw this really nice , dobermin , and pit bull mixed puppy . He was really sweet , and didn't seem aggersive at all , but my mom didn't really want him , because of all the stuff on T.V, like pit bull's attacking someone, and other things. So we ended up not getting him , because of that . What is your opinoin on pit bulls.

I was petting my cat today and noticed a bump. He is half indoors, half outdoors and I thought somehow he'd gotten a tick. I look in his fur to pull it out and noticed it wasn't a tick at all. It was a strange worm-like bug that was gray/white and stuck out more than a bump and then it moved. I felt around his neck and found another one. I called a friend who told me it was a warble. Is this definatly a warble (I don't know anything else it could be)

I'm taking him to the vet tommorrow, what exactly will they do to remove it. Will they keep him overnight...?

I want to switch my dogs to a new healthier food and would like your advice.
I have 2 large black labs mixes, male 90 pounds and female 55 pounds.

I have been reading about different foods and it looks like:

Innova
Go Natural
Summit
Orijen
Wellness

seem like the better ones. These use all natural products, no by products and don't have all those fillers.

One of the things I noticed about them though is that they don't seem to have a lot of fruit or vegetable products. I know that I should give the dogs mostly meat but I thought that having a good mixture is better for them. Does it matter?

Does anyone use these brands? What are your experiences with them? If I do use them, can I just give my dogs some veggie table scraps to get a good mixture?

Would you recommend any other brands? I realize that making homemade raw dog food is best which I hope to do eventually but for now please give your opinions on dry dog food brands.

They have always been in the same cage together. Also, should I take in her a box she can't see out of so she isn't frightened by the changing scenery, or would she actually enjoy looking around? I don't want her to be traumatized after the whole thing.

My dog... is a puppy about 6 months old. She had a hard time understanding who was boss at first beucase my sister gave her to much freedom in the downstairs of our house. Now she is confined to the kitchen and only out sometimes to be with me at night for an hour... sometimes when she gets something she isnt suppost to have (ex.pen) when you try to get near her to take it... and then again when you do finally take it or if you corner her, she turns evil. She snarls and shows her teech and gets really nasty... almost like an attack dog. She ONLY does this when she gets something she cant have and she knows you want it back. I am not sure how to stop this behavior. SHe hadn't done it in weeks even when she had something she wasn't supposed to. My sister was in charge of her the past two days when i wasnt home and now all of a sudden she did it again and worse then normal.
I do not know what to do. ANy help would be appreciated.

I am wanting to make my chinchilla a Christmas Tree. I know i must sound like a lunatic, but her cage will be the only thing not decorated this Christmas.LOL
Anyways, i have popsicle sticks, a wooden 'base' for the tree, and little wooden 'presents' that i know are all ok for her to nibble on. But i have a huge problem...No way to put it all together. I would imagine glue won't be too good for chinchillas. And i know sisal rope is fine, but that would be almost impossible to attempt. So any ideas on how i can put this together?

I had gotten this kitten from a local humane society. When i got it i took it home and found out that it was infested with flees, and had a cough and was having problems breathing. So i gave it a flee bath and schedualed a vet appt. I found out the kitten was only 6 weeks old, but they said it should be able to eat on its on, and if not to feed it kitten milk. It had an upper respetory infection, worms, fleas, earmites, and problems with its eyes. They gave me meds for everything, and when i got it home it wouldn't eat. I figured it would adventually so i didn't worry much. The next day it at maybe 1 piece of food literally. I figured mayb it just didn't lik it so i went and bought 2 other kinds of kitten foods, iams and purina. still wouldn't eat them. It drinks water but nothing else. I bought it a kitten bottle with kitten milk and it wont drink it, or regular milk either. I tried soaking the food in water and it didn't work. HELP please

I bought Frank 2.5 weeks ago. I put him in 20Gal tank with calci-sand substrate (pet store said it was okay as long as i supplemented his food properly), with 3 hide boxes and a water dish that I change every other day. I also have a heating pad. I throw in about 15 small/medium crickets every couple of days (dusted w/ vitamin/cal powder) and he usu. eats one cricket when I throw them in and no more after that! In the last three days, he has eaten one cricket, even though there are several running around. As suggested by the pet store, i put a dish with small mealworms, but he hasn't been interested in those. I also stick a piece of dog food in the cage for the crickets to nibble on. I don't know what else to do.
