We have a 10 year old shih tzu. About 2 months ago we got really worried when we discovered a large black tumor-like lump on the inside of the right side of his mouth. It would hang out of his mouth and look really disgusting. A week later we got it removed and stitched up. The doctors didn't know what to think about it, and later came to the conclusion that there was a 50% chance that it was cancer.
They said if it was cancer that it would reoccur on his neck.
He's a really healthy dogged. Raised on nothing but healthy dog food, and a scatter bit of our food every now and then. He has just as much energy as he did when he was 4 years old. It's really amazing. He tends to sleep a lot now, but he still has the energy.
We found a smaller version of the lump we removed in the same spot today...
Could it be cancer? Or could it not have been removed good enough?
We're only putting him down when he's in pain, but we can't spend $100s after $100s on these lumps...
It's so hard.
