It is getting cold outside and my daughter and I are trying to lure a young stray cat to our home so we can give her a safe and loving home. She eats the food we put out for her and has come inside our home to sniff around, but when we shut the front door she freaked out and started jumping and running looking for a way out. we let her out - hoping she would trust us and come back again. We have a neutered 5 year old cat who would probably love a young companion, but we aren't sure how to proceed with the feral stray. Any suggestions?

Okay I've decided to get a small pet, but I have no clue which one to get!! My choices are a hamster, guinea pig, mouse or rat. I want a pet that for the most part will be affectionate, allow you to hold it, and not bite. If you could give me your input, and which one you prefer, it would be much appreciated!!

I have a litter of puppies and I want to start putting them outside. Not all the time. Maybe starting during the day for a little while. Does anyone have any suggestion. They already eat 2-3 meals a day of puppy food. Mom is not really into going in the box to much anymore.

I am not asking for people opinions on breeding. Just help with the question. My dogs have had all eyes and hips checked. Champion lines and have great personalities.

Our puppy is 12 wks old, we had her for about a month now. For the time being, she sleeps in a crate at night and when we're not home so we try to keep her out as much as possible. If we are not paying 100% attention to her she will find something to chew. She has a basket of chew toys and bones. she knows where they are and takes them out herself.

What can I do to stop her from chewing things other than her toys?

I heard I should spray vinegar on the things she tries to chew, but I'm not sure if it really works.

Does the dog trainer have to have certain credentials in order to be a trainer for CGC? I was researching into that for my dog, but the closest CGC trainer is 5 hours away. Can a trainer help with this even though their not "certified" as a CGC trainer? I am very interested in doing this for my dog and i will admit i don't know much about dog trainers in particular. thanks in advance.

I'm super attached to this dog since he is my first pet but he has so many health problems that he needs to be put down. I only get to see him once every few months since I moved out of my childhood home so I am especially upset that he may get put down before I get to see him again.

If I can be there when he goes, which is best: Staying with him until after they give him the shot? Or saying goodbye at home and letting my parents take him to the vet? I'm worried that I will be too upset if I go but I feel like it may be a good learning experience to go.

Also, how can one prepare for this event? And how can you deal with it afterward?

Thank you.

My cat has hyperesthesia, "tail-chasing" disorder. It sounds funny, but it really isn't. The only medications available for this condition only supresses her urges to attack her tail. So she sleeps alot during the day and has alot of energy at night. She's attacked her tail so much that it's never had enough time to heal so it looks and feels like someone sliced her tail with a knife. I know there could be complications with the surgery, but I'm running out of options. I can't believe she has this problem and she's only 1 year 7months.

My kitty Simba has been sneezing for a few days. Yesterday I noticed that she had a runny nose and today, her eyes are draining quite a bit. She isn't as energetic as usual and seems uninterested in doing things she usually loves to do. Could she have a kitty cold? I think she has an appointment for shots in one or two weeks but should I move up the appointment and get her into a vet? She seems miserable! How can I make her more comfortable?

Thanks :)

I know worlds best cat litter is but I don't like that one very much. What are other septic safe kitty litters. I think Shweat is but is it good? I didn't like worlds best because it left my kittys with yellow paws and it got all over the house. I also didn't care much for the smell. Let me know.

My beagle doesnt like to be picked up, but the vet said we should train him to get used to it. He is medium sized about 32 lbs. He bit my dad (the first bite EVER) the other day when he tried to pick him up. My dad got really mad, yelled at him, hit him, and made him sleep outside. Does my dog have a right to not like to be picked up? Could we be hurting him when we pick him up? Should we have punished him?

My boyfriend and I bombed our apartment this past weekend because we had a SERIOUS flea problem. I washed my cat in some very strong flea shampoo before we left, and washed her again just to be sure when we got back (it works really well, judging by all the dead fleas in the tub when I get done). I even washed all of our clothes before we set off the bombs. I also sprayed the carpet with Raid for fleas and vacuumed twice when we got back.

But for some reason we STILL have fleas! My boyfriend is threatening to get rid of the cat, but I really don't want to do that as I practically think of her as my child (he doesn't have the kind of relationship with her that I do as he's the disciplinarian).

On a side note: our cat isn't the reason we have fleas. We dog-sat a friend's mom's pomeranian who swore up and down she didn't have fleas. Hmph.... It's funny the fleas didn't show up until we dog-sat.

What can we do?!?

How many of you own a dog (of ANY breed) With titles, trophies, CGC, Search and Rescue, therapy or any other type of achievement award?

Those of you who do, especially those who own "dangerous" breeds that are outstanding examples of Good Dogs. Follow this link.
http://dpca.org/Legisltv/cardchallenge.htm

For those of you who don't already own an exemplary canine, would you like to? Do you have any goals for your dog and you?

he has eat the same food for the past 2 bags i bought, then he started leaving the pellets and only eating the seeds and dried flakes. so i changed him back to just the normal pellets that he used to eat from a baby until about 3 months ago and now he wont eat them either. he seems to have gone off lettuce and spinach and carrots too.

I have tried felidae and innova evo, but both are giving her a rash around her neck. I was giving her canned felidae and she got really really sick. So, now she has raw food. I have cut out her treats and the vet told me dried chicken should be fine as a treat. But I need a dry food also because the raw is too expensive as the only food. So, what dry food is good for cats with allergies? What ingredients is she most likely allergic too so that I can avoid them?

I recently got a male chocolate lab puppy, about 9 weeks old now. The people I bought him from said he had been dewormed once, one week before I got him. I brought him to the vet I work for this past monday (three days after I got him) for an exam and de-worming (with pyrantel). His stool sample was normal. He still has quite the pot belly. He is being fed a low residue vet diet, and the appropriate amount recommended by my vet. I should also add that he is a small lab, probably the runt of the litter. He weighs about 7.5 lbs right now. He came from a little of six pups, and his mom weighed around 50 lbs (at least this is what I was told by the people I got him from, whom did not own the parents.) He has another vet appt. in about 5 days for shots. Starting this morning he has been drinking and urinating a lot. What is going on? Anyone been through this? I am waiting to hear from my vet to see what she thinks, but I thought I would ask here as well.

I live in a dorm room and it gets really dusty really fast. I just got a new goldfish and I have an open top aquarium for him, but recently I saw some of the dust floating through his water. I change his water regularly, but I'm afraid it's still not enough! What should I do?

Okay, I'm probably going to kick myself for asking this, but ever since I got my cat from the shelter last year, he likes to have attention on his rear end. What I mean exactly is that he'll come up on your lap and you pet him then he'll turn around and stick his butt in your face like he wants you to pet his butt! At night he'll come in the bedroom to wake me up and he'll come up to me and sit on my head or stick his butt up to my face. it's getting a little rediculous but I have no idea why he's doing this. he loves the back of his hind legs rubbed and not his "butt" rubbed (well I wouldn't know because I don't touch his butt) but he likes his upper hind legs and buttcheeks rubbed. lol. I feel so dumb but I don't know why he acts like this. He's a very lovable cat and he's been to the vet and I never asked why he could be doing this. It irritates my husband when he's laying down watching tv and the cat gets up to put his butt in my husbands face. Please no rude or perverted comments

My sweet, little Pomeranian is 13 years old (her name is Lexus), and is starting to loose her hearing.
Are there any tests I can do to see how good or bad it actually is without spending a tons of money going to the vet?

Hello all!

I want to dig your brain a little today about breeds. Why did you choose the specific breed you did? Why do you continue to return to that breed? For those of you who actively breed, what is it about that breed that you love so much and makes you want to better it?
For those of you who prefer mixed breeds or mutts, why did you choose it? Did it choose you?
Is there a particular aspect you're looking for in your breed or non-breed when you bring a dog into your home?

We all want different things from our pets, how did the breed you chose factor into that.

We all know what my preferred breed is ;-)...but I want to hear your reasons, then maybe I'll share a bit of my own.

And a friendly, good morning greeting from Winston:

Looking forward to hearing about all your fabulous dogs....
