eeek! terrapins need specialist terrapin food or they get vitamin deficiency ( especially vit A). They grow quite big so you will need a special tank for them and they can carry bacteria in the gut, especially salmonella so definitely wash your hands.

What kind of terrapin? Red-ear Sliders or Painted Turtles are the most common.

Jarred shrimp are poor nutrition for most terrapins. You need a mix of live or frozen/thawed (but not dried or freeze dried) 'fish foods' like small fish, worms, shrimp, krill, etc. and good pellets.

Keep them in a bowl? Most turtles should be kept in at least 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length- they like big spaces that are clean and warm (75-80F)

If you handle the turtles or touch the turtle water, you should wash your hands.

Bits of left-over food should be taken care of by the filter.

PLEASE review the right cares of this kind of turtle at a good site like http://www.redearslider.com
