This cat needs to see a vet. Weight loss like that is not a good sign. As has already been mentioned, it could be hyperthyroidism (your cat is in that age demographic), an allergy, worms, any any other number of things. The only person that can really tell you what is happening is your veterinarian.

Sounds like you need to run a couple tests at the vet to find out what is up. A full blood panel will tell you a lot about the health of a dog or cat. Especially considering he is a bit older ( anything over 7 is considered senior)
Your kitty could be suffering from hyperthyroid, kidney problems, diabetes, or food allergies. (just to name a few things) All 3 of these things are easy to manage with the proper education and medication
Good Luck!

VET NOW! It sounds crazy but pets can handle even the most extreme pain and sick feelings so well. All they need is an inkling that someone loves them, even just a pat on the head and it all goes away and makes them feel better. Take your cat to the vet now. Worms is the most likely answer and very excruciating when you find out what they're doing to your kitty's insides. By now the condition sounds very bad so ASAP please!

Ok, how bad does it need to get before you schedule an appointment with the vet? What you describe are two things that can be very dangerous if untreated. They're symptoms you shouldn't ignore.

Allergies or something your cat ate. That's what my vet told me. Eventually, the hair grew back.

You need to take him to the vet. Hair and weight loss is a concern and can indicate serious illness. Even if it is nothing serious, if you leave it, it may just get worse. Best of luck.
