ok well i have a lovely cockatiel. tonight he has been really attached to me! he still will not sit on my hand or finger! he loves me im pretty sure because he gets upset when i leave the room or when im not right next to is cage. he really loves to get his treats every night out of my hand. i dont get why he still wont sit on my hand! does anyone have any advice how to get him to? i dont really think hes too scared, i just think that he may be kinda bossy or picky. he really acts different when im around than when my mom or my sis is around. when my mom puts her hand in his cage his flies everywhere and gets really upset but if i stick my hand in there he acts normal and just kinda looks at my hand. but you know if i get too close he tries to bite and runs away. the only time that he wont try to bite my hand is when i have the treat. so please give me your advice on how to hand tame him.

Sticking your hand in his cage is very threatening. To gain his trust, you have to be assertive, not threatening. He is a wild prey animal, and will act instinctively. Try taking him to a neutral room and begin step up training from there. Tell your mom not to stick her hands in there and break his trust with humans anymore, too.

I tame all my birds by taking them in a small bathroom. First make sure his wings are clipped so he can't get far when he tries to fly. Cover the mirrors and put the toilet seat down. If you are too scared of getting bit, try taking a perch in with you and get him to sit on the perch, work with him everyday and cut about an inch off the perch daily, eventually he will go on your hand when there is no more perch for him to stand on. I have tamed many birds, including lovebirds that most people say can't be done. I have used the perch method with larger birds. Once you get him to stand on your fingers, exercise him by making him "step up" onto your other hand. Everytime he you put your fingers under his belly say "step up", when he does praise him. After you get him stepping up, get him used to you petting him on the back and head. Once he sees how good that feels he will "snuggle " with you.
Good luck, and don't be scared of a bite or two.

He is just not comfortable with the idea of a moving human perch. Keep working on him, and one day he might get brave and try. Don't startle him when this happens, or you will lose your progress. You can try to use treats to coax him onto your hand by holding the treat in one hand, so he has to jump up on your other to reach it. Don't give up, birds are smart but very cautious.

you know male cockatiels can talk don't you ? i had one i raised from a baby and he said lots of stuff, but you have to constantly say the phrase you want him to say. like i taught mine to say i love you!! it sounds so cute too, he used to say lots of things.
and i got my bird to stand on my hand by taking him and sitting him on my shoulder and before long he thought he was a person!! if you shut all the doors and windows in your room and let him fly around he will get use to you too!!
