Do you think it is right to call yourself a dog lover when really you only like purebreds?

I'm choosing not to rush picking my fishies :).

So far I did some research and am interested in Mawali Cichlids (though internet info is very mixed). I also want a red tail shark and understand the dangers of keeping it with large, agressive cichlids so I know to be careful. I have a 30 "square" gallon tank cycling (very slowly) and hope to keep

1 Red Tail Shark
1 Electric Yellow Cichlid

as well as at least 2 more fish.

I understand that I have to carefully find the right balance of pH and hardness to suit all my fishies. They should be at least 3 inches so they don't get picked on, but no more than 7 inches to avoid being the menace.

Since I'm not a big fan of "boring" fish - I need help picking mild cichlids that would fit in this aquarium.

If possible, their diet should be higher on the veggie side and should live at least 6 years.

Thanks!

He gets frontline every month like clockwork. He picked up some fleas from outside and now he has several. I want to get rid of them tonight. How do I do it. Is it safe to use something else when he had a application of frontline only 10 days ago? Can I use flea soap or a dip?

I have two female rats. I house them in a cockatiel cage. I used Carefresh bedding, as that worked well with my gerbils, but one of my rats couldn't handle the dust and continually sneezed from it. I changed over to Yesterday's news and the sneezing stopped immediately. I clean the cage out every other day due to the smell. It's terrible. It was terrible even with the Carefresh bedding. The rats get bathed every other week and I clean the cage with bleach (completely scrubbing and rinsing so as not to harm them). I am finding that urine is seeping underneath the pull-out tray and forming a puddle until I take it out and scrub it down. I don't know how the urine is getting there but it smells simply horrible. Anyone else have this problem? I know they shouldn't smell, but my housemate is getting to the point where he wants to bring them to an individual that takes in unwanted rats. I love my rats. I need to find a way to keep down the smell. I also use Bio-odor in their water.

My cat got a tooth extraction about 3 weeks ago. After he wasn't doing so great. We took him back to the vet and fluid had filled his chest. They gave us medicine to make that go away.

About a week went by and he wasn't eating. He has been loosing weight since the tooth extraction. We took him to a different vet to get a different opinion. They said the fluid was constricting his breating. They drained the fluid.

The fluid was clear and watery. They tested it and they came up with the possibility of Cancer, Heart Disease, or FIP. But it's just weird because he has never shown any signs of these BEFORE the surgery on his teeth.

He now has a ok appetite. He goes outside. He is slowly gaining weight back and his breating seems alright.

Now I just want any input. PLEASE!
What do you guys think?

I don't want to take them to the pound as they could be put down. Also the animal shelter that is meant to be "no kill" will put them down if they seem dangerous or do not get on with people after a short period of time. I have a cat that I adopted from the pound and another cat that was a stray and decided to stay. But this week there is another stray that has decided to stay. When does it stop? At first they are scared of me but then when they see that I won't harm them and that I give out food they like me. And I know you shouldn't feed them but they still eat the food from my other cats. So what is the best thing to do for them? My cat prefers to be the only cat here. She loves people but doesn't like other cats and will hiss at them if they go near her. The first stray loves to chase her and the second now loves to steal her food. She is smaller than the other cats. What would you do in this situation? (Keeping her inside is not an option).

You know how dachshunds always have trouble with their backs and joints? Is this a side effect of bad breeding?

should i wait till he is done with his course of antibiotics? is is safe to worm him at the same time or should i wait? i ask because worms tend to keep animals from absorbing minerals and such from their food and was wondering if they would prevent his body from absorbing the antibiotic.thanks to all who answer :)

I don't know why. She's young and very healthy. But, in the past year or so, there have been three times where she has lost a tuft of fur about an inch in diameter, each time on a different part of her body.

The first time it was on her front leg, and there was a strange sore where the fur fell off.

The second time there were cuts where the fur had fallen off on the top of her neck.

And now this time, it is on one of her front legs again, but there is no sore or cut, just... a lack of fur.

I have no idea if these three incidents are related or what's causing them. I realize the obvious thing to do is to take her to the veterinarian, but I am a poor college student at the moment, so any help on here would be very appreciated.

l love GSD's and want to know everything about them! Here are the 10 questions! Thanx!

Does anyone here have a rescued German Shepherd?

How well do German Shepherds get along with cats?

What is your GSD's favorite game?

How long does it usually take to train your GSD to learn a new trick?

What kind of tricks can your GSD do?

Do you think a GSD would be happy in the Subarbs?

Can your GSD walk off-leash?

We have a lot of dogs on our street, so if l let my GSD off-leash, would she bite them?

Does your GSD greet visiters, or bark/bite them?

Is your GSD good with children?

Thank you! l know there are a lot of questions!!!

I've been reading a few sites RE: pet adoptions and many sites have said that black dogs have a hard time getting adopted versus light colored dogs. Now, as a black lab lover, I find this hard to believe! Wonder why they say that?

This typical pit bull attack happened 7 hours ago. What would you do if this happened in your house? If you had a gun would you shoot the pit? Would you have a pit if you had a baby in the house?

BALTIMORE -- A 17-month-old boy is recovering after a vicious assault by a pit bull in southeast Baltimore.

The dog, which neighbors said was a family pet, attacked the child inside his home around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Newcomb Way.

The child was bitten in the face, suffering deep cuts along

his nose and mouth, officials said.

Police said that the boy's father was also injured while pulling the dog off him.

2 nights ago my siisters chihuahua was bit by another dog on the top of his eye. It looked as if blood came into the eye from the wound. Later it seemed as if it was begining to come out of the socket. But now he is able to move his eye and there is no longer blood. However, his eye has become grayish-blue with a milky-white pupil..i think its cataracts. What do you think it is? Please help.
