Fungus? You mean algae? Typical. A cleaning is in order.
There are some different schools of thought, but they all amount to the same thing, replace some water.
I'd say about 1/3 of the water each month with filtered tap water or reverse osmosis. R.O. water may have a high pH, but stays clear much longer. If the tank is in the sun or has a wide spectrum light algae will grow faster, requiring more frequent cleaning and water exchange.
Don't replace all of the water.

You should take everything out and do some serious cleaning with cleaner that won't harm your fish. If it comes back, and fish are still showing abnormal behavior ask a prof. You could also try a new tank for a while (however thats expensive) It might not be so much the plant but the fact that its taking all the oxygen out of the water and the fish are suffocating. Try a pump, but ask a prof, cuz too much oxygen can be just as deadly.

This year was uncommonly warm where I am. Most unusual. But anyway, if you've ever really spent a lot of time staring at fantails, you'll notice that some are more egg-shaped than others. If you wanted to add them into a pond, I would choose the ones that are the least "deformed". There are also wakins that would work well for ponds- comet goldfish with fantails. Every once in a while I see one that comes in with a feeder fish shipment.

what kind of pleco was it?10 gallons is too small for most.Is the fungus algae?Sounds like you need to clean, what ever it is.clean about 10% of your water every other day for a while, this could help.If it is algae, leave your lights off for a week or 2.Also,and make sure no sunlight gets in it.Ive heard of people using aluminum foil to do this, but you could also use black background paper, and put it on the sides too.

I bought a special sponge but it scratched my Aquarium
It does not really harm them but its hard to clean.I have an Eclypse tank its plastic I'm not to fond of it.
