The most effective medication for fleas and ticks would be those pills you give the dog one every three months or the stuff you rube on once a month. No I don't think that putting the collar on would hurt but if your not sure there should be a 1-800 # on the back of the med bottle you could call and ask them

First of all, whatever product you use, make sure it is ok for a 4 month old puppy to use!! Secondly, flea collars really don't work. Flea products that you get from a grocery store probably aren't all that great either. If you really want something that will work, try Frontline, Revolution or Advantix. Those are the 3 major flea/tick products out there right now, and will be your best bet. I know that Advantix has tick repelling properties, while Frontline only kills them. There are a few other differences between the products that I am not entirely sure of. These products will be a little bit more expensive, but far more effective for your pet. They can be bought cheaper online. Check with your vet to see if the specific product you used is safe to mix with one of the good products.

Don't waste your money on a flea collar. They don't work any better than the stuff you already bought. You need to get some flea products directly from your vet...especially since your little guy is only 4 months old. Try to do that as soon as you possibly can, because the longer your puppy has fleas, the harder it'll be to get rid of them, because they'll be in your house. You don't need to make an appointment to get these products, and you can buy the drops a month at a time so it doesn't take as much money.
If you can't get to the vet's right away, and you have some Dawn dish soap, you can give him a bath in it, just be very careful not to get any in his eyes. Dawn will kill or at least stun fleas long enough for you to wash them down the drain. It won't get rid of all of them, so it's important to get the "good stuff" from the vet. You may also need to buy some surface spray for your carpets and furniture.
Good luck! Roxanne

Collars are NOT effective. Neither is ANYTHING from a pet store - stay away, because pet store stuff is often dangerous! Pet stores aren't licensed to sell the proper chemicals for flea treatment - anything you find in store is just going to be a basic pesticide that you can't expect to work

You need a proper treatment from a vets, like Frontline, Advantage or Revolution. Make sure it gets on the SKIN of your animals, not their fur. You will probably have to spray your house as well, since this is where most of the fleas are living. Again, get something from a vets, not a pet store.
