I don't know why. She's young and very healthy. But, in the past year or so, there have been three times where she has lost a tuft of fur about an inch in diameter, each time on a different part of her body.

The first time it was on her front leg, and there was a strange sore where the fur fell off.

The second time there were cuts where the fur had fallen off on the top of her neck.

And now this time, it is on one of her front legs again, but there is no sore or cut, just... a lack of fur.

I have no idea if these three incidents are related or what's causing them. I realize the obvious thing to do is to take her to the veterinarian, but I am a poor college student at the moment, so any help on here would be very appreciated.

Just wanted to add a few things:

She is about two years old. Her coat is very soft, very full and very beautiful, seemingly very healthy. One of the healthiest-looking I've ever seen.

It is possible she may have fleas, I suppose. But she never has contact with any other animals. (She is an indoor cat).

I had lotsa people say take her to the vet when i posted on Yahoo Answers.. I bought that stuff and within 2 days rash began disappearing.

She may have gotten bitten by a bug, causing her to bite and scratch a lot in the areas that had sores under the missing fur... and as for the missing fur without sores, she may just have a somewhat unhealthy coat. My cat was the same way. Feed her 2 raw eggs and she'll be fine. If it keeps happening without the sores, you may have no choice but to take her to the vet.

Then it sounds like she may have fleas and the cuts and fur loss have been caused by her scratching. Keep an eye out to see if she's scratching a lot. You should take her to the vets to get some flea treatment and if you really can't afford to go then in the meantime you can buy some flea treatments in shops.

I hope you sort it out and she gets better soon :-)

are you in an area that has fleas? do you treat for fleas monthy with only a veterinary product? (NOT over the counter).
sometimes flea ALLERGY will make them loose hair and have scabs, but there are also many dermological conditions that will cause hair loss or "alopecia".

maybe she got in a fight and the other cat bit the fur away?

Is she on a good diet? or on grocery store dry food?
try a higher quality food-- WET canned food that has no by- products and good protein as far as meat.
Also add Omega-3 fatty acid supplement like fish oil- will help skin and hair health- its safe for cats. I give my cat salmon oil or cod liver oil and he loves the taste of it.

do not know what your cat has, an exam is needed- but nutrition may help.

I had a cat once that kept losing her hair. When I took her to the vet they told me it was fleas, and she was alergic to them. You may want to get a flea comb and comb her out daily. Watch to see if she has any fleas and if she does, get her over the counter medications to take care of them. Combing your cat is good for her fur anyway, and I keep a wire flea comb and use it a couple times a week on all of my cats. If you comb against the fur right under her chin, by her mouth, see if you find any black flea droppings or eggs, it's a sure sign she has them

definite, those flea collars could reason an allergic reaction interior the puppy's epidermis. A cat could improve an hypersensitivity or inflammation despite if it in no way did before i could take the collar off and bypass get benefit, Frontline or Revolution. Its plenty safer on the cat. btw, those collars and specially Hartz products and collars are deadly!

Like humans, the older they get the more likely they will lose their hair.
