Also my wife has to put the dogs in their room when ever the pizza delivery guy comes to our house or any other time she tries to answer the door. It she is tring to show me something on the computer the dogs try to sit between us. At meals she will not let the animals in the dinning room while we are eating, they wine and cry worse than a baby. She will shake her head no and tell them to stop or they will go to their room they act like they know what she is saying because they will stop for a short time. They when they start again she will go to the hall and point toward their room and all she says is go and they go to their room. Do you think they actally understand what she is tell them or do they just understand they body movements?

For those of you who are knowledgeable about canine nutrition, I am looking for some references to back up my position with my new (maybe temporary) vet. She is a firm believer that dogs should be eating dog food, that dogs need carbohydrates (particularly grains), that vegetables are not carbohydrates (?), that I am turning my dog into a vegetarian be removing grain from her diet and feeding her meat and veggies (?), that dogs need to eat the exact same thing every day.......you get the picture.

I am looking for research/references (NOT anecdotal evidence) to back up the following:

1) Dogs have notnutritional need for carbohydrates
2) Dogs have no need for grains
3) Diets high in carbohydrates contribute to inflammation, which increases arthrits pain and can cause medical problems, including obesity and maldigestion.
4) Diets high in carbohydrates contribute to cancer.
5) Eating the same diet all the time increases the likelihood of developing food allergies.

My dog has become nauseous several times after swimming and I was wondering if the lake had anything to do with it.

My little baby poor thing has been coughing pretty badly and also sneezing sometimes, I've been giving her little measures of baby cough medicine. The cough tends to be worse during the night. Is this just like a doggy cold? and if so what else can I do to speed up the recovery?

My 6 month old pup had 2 episodes of loose stools this morning, it was dark brown and thick muckish, it has never happened before.Last night, I fed him boiled stewed beef, which I had first fried in a little vegetable oil, and to which I added a very small pich of salt and garlic powder. Also, I had given him a few tidbits of beef from a stew to which I added sauteed mushrooms, onions and peas.Of course I gave him NONE of the mushrooms or onions but just a few pieces of the beef in the broth, and now I am terribly worried whether it has done him some harm? I know I shouldnt give him tidbits but he looked so woeful when I was eating!! He seems fine, is physically very alert and active, playful, is drinking water, has had no vomiting so far, but has had just the 2 incidents of loose stool till now, should i be worried and take him to the vet immediately? I do have an appointment with the vet later in the evening for his shots. Is this ok for him or need I be concerned? please help, thanks

My dog is a German Shepard husky and I walk her all the time without a leash. She is 14 years old and is very slow. She never leaves my side when we walk and is very loyal. Today while walking my dog home from the park I had a young black man start yelling at me to put my dog on a leash. I didn't have one and he started talking about how he should start carrying a bb gun to go out to his car.

Then I encountered another guy who was giving me extremely dirty looks.

The whole time my dog was just walking by my side at the slow pace she walks. My dog has never attacked another human/dog in pretty much all its life (besides being a puppy) and I feel it deserves the respect to stay off her leash.

Opinions?

What cichlids are compatable with neons and ottos in a 20 gallon! I wanted rams but the petstores near where I live don't have them (petsmart and petco). Is there a more popular species ( no gouramis) that I can keep just one or two of in a tank full of little fish??? Also, there is an algae of some sort in the tank. It is against the glass, it is green, and it is tiny dots, not bunched together. My ottos don't eat it. Scrubbing it off...it is to tough my arms hurt when Im done. What could it be? How could I kill it?

can't take our 1 year old female pitbull Annie with us because the BMW we drive is on the lease. Annie is soooo cute and we never leave her in crate for more than 14 hours. She poops on newspapers in the back yard. We've had her since she was 4 weeks and she rarely bites smaller dogs. We even have a book on how to "teach a dog funny party trix". Our neigbours 8 years old kid has volunteered to take her to a potty once a day, however, he asks for 5 dollars for the service. Is this a good price? We love our Annie so much, and we want only the best for her.
Looking forward to our vacation.

What should I do? Is he going to die? Is pooping (liquidy), and urining all over the house a symptom? It is like incontrolably that he goes everywhere. Is this just a reaction to the chocolate? my dog is a shih tzu and is 2 years old. he only ate a bar that was covered in chocolate but it was only a half a bar (dark chocolate). He weighs about 11.5 pounds. HELP!!!!!!!!

I'm really sad because I got a brand new (first time) guinea pig, and then I find out I'm allergic to it (I wasn't sneezing or itching my eyes, but my throat was getting scratchy). And now I think for my health I have to return it after I spent 40 dollars on the supplies and the guinea. :'-(
