My dog has become nauseous several times after swimming and I was wondering if the lake had anything to do with it.

There was an alert posted on Whole Dog Journal's website this morning reporting on the death of a dog due to swimming in a pond. The bulletin sited the "dangerous overgrowth of blue-green algae" as the culprit.

This is a must read for all dog owners.

Consult you Vet immediately! Your dog could be in serious danger.

To many variables, what form of canine, which lake??? Assuming the water high quality is suitable for swimming, no it would not be the reason at the back of the topic. The canine in my avatar swims in a lake on maximum days. If the lake is a "settlement pond" or is stagnate water, then of direction your canine should not be any the place close to it, neither could you!!

Your dog may have been stressed from the workout and may have been getting cold. If she loves to swim, then you may want to do it more often, but at shorter intervals, so she can get used to it.

Lakes are safer than rivers. In a lake, your biggest dangers are going to be potential hypothermia and exhaustion. In a river, add current and fishing lures to the list of concerns.

Yeah. There can be an algae problem and if there are ducks present, the poop can make them sick.

Lately there have been postings about a problem with Blue-green algae in Fenton, MI. Might want to Google it.

do not let the dog in the water anymore and see if the same condition persists. Could be a bacteria in the water.
