My four year old westie, male, has a panic attack when I run the dishwasher. He gets as far away as possible from the dishwasher, starts breathing very heavily, and shakes a lot. I worry about him in this condition. He even panics a little when I open the dishwasher to put dishes in or take them out. Does anyone know of anything I can try? He is also scared of thunderstorms, but has a totally different reaction. He barks constantly in this high pitched bark. He runs around the house nonstop. This is really bad, especially in the middle of the night. Help needed before another storm blows through. Thanks in advance.

Long story, but: if my living room smells like a hamster cage, am I looking for a puddle? A 'load'? Something else, given cat mating -- er -- signals?

(1 young female, 1 young male. Neither fixed _yet_ (female to be spayed this Friday; male a "yours or the shelter" just this Sunday), and both segregated, but both keenly aware of the other, opposite-sex un-fixed one. Went out for dinner; came back to a smell unfamiliar to me over the few months we've had the female, who has exceptional manners. He does have a litter box of his own, but has been pretty frightened since he's been here; I don't know that he's even noticed...)

Best I can do is 'hamster cage.' Is this the notorious male urine spraying thing?

Hi everyone, I recently adopted a 9 week old puppy (10 weeks this Saturday) and I wanted to know what your thoughts were on crate training. About half the information I read in books, online, etc. says that it is excellent while the other half thinks that it is cruel and inhumane. I agree that I don't want to confine my puppy because she's so upset and barks for hours on end but when I go to my classes, I don't want her to ruin anything within my room due to her jumping and excessive biting because of her teething. What do you guys think about crate training and what's the easiest way to crate train her? I appreciate all the help!

I don't trust the things by themselves, however, I have a fence (that my dogs can jump and I am not allowed to alter)... would the invisible fence be enough to stop their jumping? The have to "hold on" and sort of climb the fence to get over. Would the addition of the invisifence do the trick, or would it just be a waste of money?

Oh, and GetEmGang? your comments are NOT welcome.

My sister just moved out with my nephew on very bad terms with everyone in the house. She left behind a long haired hampster that we have to take care of. Does anyone know how to take care of it? I'm not sure what kind it is. Thanks.

I hear people say that pitbull should be banned as pets, but have they ever met a pitbull? I have never in my life of working with animals met a vicious pitbull or rotweiler. They are sweet animals and make excellent pets. They will love and protect your family. They just need to be loved in return and treated right and with care. If you raise him to be mean then he will be mean.

You know those backgrounds for aquariums that petshops sell?
Well I have a plywood aquarium (recently bought) the inside is painted blue (sealant). So I was wondering, is it possible to put them inside the tank? Without it bending, curling or doing anything else.

If you have I would like to hear about it! People who have compassion for animals and help them deserve to be recognized for the good things they do! I just finished reading a question posted by Dhara about an abused dog she saved, and it made me feel really good to know that even though she knew nothing about dogs she had it in her heart to help save one from an abuser, good for her!!
Anyway I would like to hear more stories about people helping abused or abandoned animals, the 10 points will go to the most touching story...

I have 1 guppy, 1 platy and 4 small dwarf puffers. But the puffers seem to be afraid of the guppy and the platy. What can I do, I thing the dwarf puffers are still very young. Also in Petsmart(where I got the fish) the aquarists told me that those fish could be kept in the same tank.

My humane-society-adopted cat had a broken/dislocated elbow before I got her. I suspect she's having more pain just recently- decreased activity, decreased appetite, pulling hair, worsened limping. I think an amputation is the only answer for her discomfort, but I'm afraid it'll be really traumatic for her. I'd love to hear from others who've had to do this with their cats.

OK...I'm not nuts or anything. Just give me some opinions. I have 2 indoor dogs; 4 year old terrier mix (male neutered) he is housebroke...and the culprit 1 year old terrier mix (female spayed). I just don't get this dog!! We go out a lot as I work and live on a horse farm. She will poop and/or pee outside and run around for long periods of time...come in the house and pee or poop!!! They both eat good quality dog food and eat early, about 5 a.m. Overnight...poops in the house! Almost every morning I get up and clean up. I'm thinking I should kennel them both overnight and maybe this will lick the p.m. problem. But what about the other times throughout the day? HELP

"Paddle" had ear mites when he was given to me, with sores behind the ears from scratching. 3 vet trips have not completely healed the infection in the wound. I earigate twice daily which helps, but not healed. Does anybody know what the purple liquid was, that you could buy years ago at the pet store. Many thanks.

My cats won't listen and smacking lightly on the behind doesn't help to stop them from scratching the furniture. I am nearing the end of my patience and don't really want to declaw them.
