Your kitten has tapeworms. They often come from fleas or from eating rodents. And if they checked a fecal sample for worms, they don't usually see tape worms under the microscope. You diagnose tapeworms by seeing them in the stool, or around their butt. They look like little grains of rice. Just tell your vet that you found tapeworms on your kitty, and they will give you medicine. But you also need to get rid of any fleas, if he has them. Because if you get rid of tapeworms, but not the fleas, then he will just keep getting reinfected. Same if he is a mouser. Good Luck with your kitty!

That was a tapeworm proglottid. Call your vet's office and tell them what you saw. The vet will need your cat's current weight so he/she can prescribe something to kill the worms.
When a vet checks a pet's stool sample, they put it in a small container. They add a solution that makes the eggs of the intestinal parasites float to the surface. A coverslip is placed over the top and it is left to sit for about 10min. The coverslip is placed on a slide and examined under a microscope. If there are eggs present in the sample, they should be stuck to the coverslip.
With this kind of test it is possible to get a false negative. There may not have been any parasites or eggs in that particular sample you took to the vet but your cat could still have worms. That's why it's important to have your pets checked at least once a year.

The "rice grains" are almost a sure sign of a tapeworm. Did the vet worm the kitten when you went in? That's something most kittens need and it is usually for round worms. There is a special medication for the tape worm. The kitten could have gotten one from swallowing a flea.

kittens usually have to be wormed for round worms. tape worm segments are what u are describing. they are caused from the flea. anytime a cat has fleas even one or two they need to be wormed from a vet. if you use proper flea drops that get the egg and the flea beginning april thru november you wont have the tape worm but the drops have to be used consistantly not just once or twice because thier is a flea cycle to break. take a stool sample in from the litter box and the vet will check it for other worms.usually one pill works according to weight of the cat or kitten thats why it is a waste of money to buy pills in the store till u know what kind he has. some worms cannot be seen only under a microscope

That is worms. Take him back to the vet and they can give him a shot to get rid of them. Very unhealthy for the cat. If you did not tell them about the rice on him, then they would not know to worm him. If you did tell your vet and they did nothing, you really need to find another vet immediately

Find a different vet. All kittens have worms (so do all puppies - they are born with worms). All vets should know this. Your vet should have given you dewormer without your having to ask and given you some instructions as well. Sounds like tapeworms. You can only purchase dewormer for tapeworms at a vet's office.

That soft thing, left to dry up would have then resembled a grain of rice...that is tapeworm segment. When they first come out, they are soft and pliable. The kitten could have gotten it while nursing, if the mother had fleas. Cats and kittens get tapeworm by swallowing fleas. The vet should have had you bring in a stool sample to check for worms. All kittens have at least one kind of worms. Tapeworm is usually not detected in a stool sample, unless a tapeworm segment happens to be present in the sample. You can get tapeworm medication from your vet, and, while you are at it, have him do a stool sample to test for other worms. Worms put a heavy burden on a kitten. He needs to be treated as soon as possible.

The little grains of rice looking things are dead worms. He needs some Drontal from the vet. One pill today, one in two weeks. He may not have shown positive when he was tested

My son said he saw worms in my kitten's stool when she visited over the weekend. I don't see any evidence in her stool since she has been home, but when I first recused her, she was infested with fleas, once I got rid of. Her stomach is kinda fat. Can she possibly have them

check his fur. they are small, gross things about the size of a grain of rice, like you said. but they are squirming.
Also, this is kinda gross, but check his litter box after he poops. if he has worms you will see them
