They have a lot of stupid owners and they get a lot of bad press. So people like to look like they're protecting children by banning the breeds instead of stomping on the idiots who raise them to be dangerous.

i wonder this all the time. And i can say for myself, i absolutely love pit bulls. Pit Bulls are my favorite breed because they ARE so Sweet. But rotweilers are not my favorite dog. It is just due to my history. I have been bitten twice by two different rotweilers. But i have also been bit by a beagle and a golden retriever. If i was going to be one of those people who said that rotweilers need to be banned because they are too dangerous, then i would also have to say that golden retrievers and beagles need to be banned also, because their bites were worse than the rotweilers. The golden caused me to have stitches on my face. Neither of the rottweiler bites broke the skin, but both the other ones did. But no one would think to ban beagles or golden retrievers. Rotweilers may not be my favorite breed, but i know a lot of rotweilers that are very sweet, and they love their family, they can just be protective, which is what some people want. They should deffinately NOT be banned.
And i know that every time I have been bitten was my fault, not the dogs. I still can't get it through my skull that every dog doesn't want to be hugged and kissed. I am like Elmira from tiny toons, i love them so much, that i feel like i have to show them. I know some dogs bite without a reason, and those individual dogs need to be addressed, not the whole breed just because that dog is cranky.
I can't explain why other people want to ban a breed. I can say as someone who is not a fan of rotweilers, i still do not agree that they should be banned, they don't tend to mix with me too well (they know i'm scared). So rather than make a fuss, or cause a problem, i just stay away from them because i know i am scared. I wish other people would too.

You are correct about that one. Majority of the people that have never even been around pets seem to think they know more than a pet owner its sad but true and they want to ban certain breeds of dogs because most of the time you only see these dog attacking people they dont show you any other breed that attacks people. Its very easy to train a pitbull or rotweiler you can even train them on attacking other people {actually knew a dog that attacked only white people.... kinda sucked}. Its not the dogs behavior that these type of people want to ban our dogs its because of the dogs owners behavior that they lack if they abuse there dog there dog seems to abuse others and if they love there dog there dog loves others and when they train there dog on certain things there dog is only trained on those certain things so like the people are banning to show dog owners this is what happens when you dont do such and such a thing if you have a dog and its crazy. You shouldnt ban a dog cause of how the owner treats the dog. Hope this helps you out.

He also could be a Staffie mix. Cute. No vet is going to put your puppy down because of its breed. Check your local regulations - some places have ordinances against specific breeds, even though it may be zoning against a very nice dog. Even Pitties can be nice dogs, although they are very powerful and must be trained and handled carefully - just as one would drive a very large truck more carefully. It doesn'st mean they are evil, just strong and like any dog, you need to know what their purpose was to be. The best thing you can do for this puppy is to get him to the vet for his checkup and vaccines on time, and then sign him up for puppy kindergarten. The better socialized he is and better mannered, the safer he will be for his entire life - and the better friend you will have. Get him in training right away with someone who can teach you clicker training, and get him a Gentle Leader. You're not going to win a tug-of-war with this guy, so you don't even want to start putting a leash around his neck. Get in touch with the Staffie Club or the local Bully breed club - you're going to need guidance, but you'll be fine. He's a baby now, and if you get training him right away, there's no reason to expect he'd be anything but a gentleman.

Pitbulls can be very sweet dogs when raised right, problem is 9 out of 10 pitbulls in the u.s. are NOT. I don't think it is right to breed animals who the majority are raised to fight. They are wonderful breeds, pitbulls and rotweilers, but honestly I think people should have a liscence to own them. That would ensure only kind responsible owners had a chance to have them as a member of their household. Did you know in Florida fighting dogs is such a huge problem pitbulls are ILLEGAL to own? I don't like the idea of banning breeds, but I also can't stand the idea of animals being tortured for owners benefits. Not what you wanted to hear, sorry, but it's my honest opinion.

I am personally not a Pitbull owner, but I have no problem with the breed at all and feel the banning of this, or any other breed is unjust. Sadly, they can't seem to figure out that the bad owners should be banned.

Ever think that maybe your aunt and sister were not the right people to own or breed these dogs?
Rotts are strong willed dogs, they require strick raising and need to know that the person is the boss. end of story. if you cannot do that with them they will be unruley and dangerous.
blame your family members not the dog.I own one. I just took in a dalmation, my pit is absolutely wonderful with him, my sisters Chihuahua on the other hand wanted to attack him and my pit just for walking by her owners, and they did nothing in return but walked away rather frightened as they could not figure out what they did. Now should Chihuahuas be banned?
Banning is a result of ignorance and the politicians and people in powers lack of know how in resolving the real issue, Bad owners. Easiest to get rid of something then make people accountable.

The media seems to blow alot out of proportion and make the people that have never had one even more afraid. I own a mixed pit and she is the sweetest dog. My step mom asked me what kind of dog she was and i lied because the media has scared her to death of them. She said she would leave if it was a pit and i said the media and bad owners have made the pits reputation the way it is, and she really got pi**ed off at me for defending the pit bull. I know of little ankle biters and cocker spaniels that have been more vicious than the pits i have been around.

It's because some people have no capability to raise up these dogs and they become aggressive. And some other people really train these dogs to be fighting dog. I think it's not the breed who need to be banned, but the adoption procedure need to be carefully examined so people without enough knowledge shouldn't be allowed to raise these dogs.
