My sister just moved out with my nephew on very bad terms with everyone in the house. She left behind a long haired hampster that we have to take care of. Does anyone know how to take care of it? I'm not sure what kind it is. Thanks.

Cheaper than going to a vet, and probably better: go to your local pet store (Petsmart or any pet store that sells hamsters), and they should have someone there that can help you with basic husbandry, and also have books on hamsters and any supplies (food, bedding, cage, etc) that you need. Until then, remember that many hamsters bite when they are picked up, and be careful. Good Luck!!

If you have a Petco nearby, they have care sheets for all of the small animals. If you want to bring him/her in, they can probably identify the breed. Good luck! Until then, just make sure he has fresh food, water and bedding. You can do this! They're fairly simple.

Feed it daily, and keep a clean cage!
Just like any animal.... fresh water and food daily.
Handle it if you can. They like to be around other living creatures.
Use the food found anywhere pet supplies are bought!

i think what you are descibing is called a teddy bear hamster! feed him hamster food, give him waster and clean it's cage once a week! if you don't know what to buy, ask your local walmart or pet store! they will help you out! good luck w/your new friend!

Best advice I can give is go to a vet and ask, they can tell you what kind of food to use, how much etc.
