I don't understand why people get dogs and then tie them up outside like lawn ornaments. Don't people understand the nature of these animals to be part of a pack? Do they know that dumping the dog outside while the rest of the pack is inside is pure torture? Why do people do these things?

We just got a seven-week old kitten. We also have a fat and rather disgruntled 14 year old Siamese cat. Per advice that we've read on the web, we're quarantining the kitten in a "safe room" so that the two cats get acclimated to each other slowly and gently. The only problem is that the "safe" room houses our two computers and their accompanying power strips and power cables. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with kitten-proofing power cables?

My 14yr old Dalmation has been gone since at least 4:30pm & we can't find him. His legs haven't been working very well for some time. The vet said he had prostate cancer 3 yrs ago & wouldn't live 8mo. but he has. I know he has heart worms & only found out 1yr ago & the treatment for an older dog was iffy especially since you have to keep them still for 6wks & we have 5 other dogs to get him excited, his age, cancer, etc... We are surrounded by woods but his legs don't work very well & he doesn't do steps at all. It's very cold outside right now & I don't know what to do. Could he have went off to die? Everyone is telling me that. I can't stand the thought of him freezing to death. We've been out there for hours & can't find him. Can someone give me an answer or something else to do? I just wish I could find him. I watched this dog being born, I just wish I could be with him in his final day.

Is there a organization in Texas that has box turtles adoptions? I would buy one from the store, but I'd love to rescue one if possible.

I have just recently bought a millipede. Yes, you read that right, a millipede. I was just wondering if anyone else owns this remarkable pet and, if so, have any advice for me?! I have noticed that he has pincer-looking things on his face, and he nibbles on me occasionally. I have looked at websites and they say that they are relatively harmless, so then what is he doing to me!? It feels very odd, and slightly uncomfortable!

My min. Jack Russell has started to produce milk in her tites, I am thinking she is prego, but I just want to make sure. Her belly isn't any bigger but her tites are. If she is , how far a long will she be if she is already producing milk, I have heard about 4 weeks.

He must have gotten it from my partner's dog from constantly playing around. At first i thought it was just his hair that got into his eyes, but i could see a faint mark of a scratch in his eyes balls... :(

I have a Chi/Italian Greyhound mix and when she sits, she doesn't merely plop her bottom down. It seems she has to fold her legs beneath her. It seems like maybe it hurts to sit normally? She doesn't yelp or complain, she just painstakingly folds her legs beneath her. Maybe her legs are just too long to just plop her booty down? Sore hips? Something genetic?

I have a safe cat collar for my cat and if she gets caught on something I realize she can break away but is their a weight requirement?? I have a 5 month old Singapura and she weighs 1.75 pounds so is she too light to cause the collar to open if she was in trouble or would she be fine? I tried searching this on the net but no luck - any idea?

I want one so bad but they are so expensive. If you have seen any in your newspaper, let me know. I've checked online and everything is well over $1000.

Strongly considering getting a gerbil and wanted some info on members who have or have had a gerbil already. I have had a hamster in the past so already know the basics, but from what I've read (and I've done a lot lately) gerbils are a little different as far as care. So I would greatly appreciate any advice on care, male or female (and i do plan on getting 2 so they don't get lonely), things to watch for when purchasing them, brands of items, health problems, ect. I already have a large crittertrail cage that i purchased for my hamster, but from what i've read i wasn't sure this would be the best option. Also what kinds of bedding do you recommend? I've heard non-scented toilet paper is the best. Any other helpful hints are also welcome. Thanks

She has been licking the area around the bottom of her tail near her anus. I just looked at it today closely and it looks like there is some hair loss, and red spots. I guess for an example, it looks like a strawberry when we humans get a really bad scratch or something. What could this be?

Just wondering I noticed that when we have played really hard tug of war her gums are bleeding. Could this be bad for her cause her bottom teeth are just barely showing and her other front teeth are halfway in. She loves it and doesnt act bothered but I am afraid I may be hurting her.

Is he is just being lazy?

2006-11-20 15:51:49 · 11 answers · asked by BEN 2 in Fish

Our dog had TPO (hip) surgery when he was just months old. The recovery took over 3 painful months. Afterwards, he became EXTREMELY protective of his paws. The surgeon cut his nails while he was anesthesized for x-rays. The vet sedated & muzzled him to cut them, I knew this would only cause disorientation & increased aggression. I was right, & now he doesn't trust the surgeon or the vet. ...And they don't trust him either. Both times atleast 1 nail was cut too short, increasing the fear that it'd be painful. He growls & threatens to bite, but he never does. My fear is not him biting; it's me hurting him with the nail clippers when he pulls away. I'm sure he senses my anxiety which makes it worse. I've gotten him to the point where I can cut one nail, but after that it can be months before he'll let me do it again. I can file them, but they're so long now, it just won't do much. Suggestions or ideas? Serious answers only please! He has been through a lot, this is no joke to me!

My newly acquired dog is very well behaved inside. He comes when we call him and generally does as we ask him to. Outside though, it's another story. He doesn't so much walk on the lead, as lurch from side to side on it. He pays much less attention to us outside, always wants to charge up to other dogs/animals we meet, and generally doesn't listen to us.

How do we have him behave better outside?
