I don't understand why people get dogs and then tie them up outside like lawn ornaments. Don't people understand the nature of these animals to be part of a pack? Do they know that dumping the dog outside while the rest of the pack is inside is pure torture? Why do people do these things?

People just don't seem to understand the nature of animals. I'm with you though--a dog needs to be included in the family (like a pack).

Some dogs are just happier outside. Herding dogs, working dogs, hounds, etc. They have been bred and raised for centuries to do their jobs and not to be cooped up in a house all day and night with nothing to do. They are bored to tears inside. Most people work a full time job and the dogs are home alone with nothing to do. They get depressed when cooped up all the time. I have a blue heeler mix and she is mostly an outdoor dog. She is happy and loves her life, where she can run and play all day. She gets lots of love and attention and she is the self proclaimed guardian of our home. She watches over our chihuahuas like they are her babies. I would never tie a dog up. That is cruel. But there is nothing wrong with having dogs outside as long as they are well cared for, are loved and well fed, and as long as they have a nice warm place to sleep. Gracie comes in when she wants to, but she is much happier outside.

I've wondered the same thing myself. I would not have a dog if it could not come into the house. In fact, my husband and I did not get another dog until we retired because we wanted to make sure we could spend time with her. Right now she is sound asleep by my husband on the bed while I answer these questions.

Sometimes what you see isn't really what is happening. For instance there is a dog outside in a kennel run here that could easily fit your description,,, EXCEPT,,,, every day she is loaded onto a truck and taken out to the field for training. One hour later you will find her back in her run. So for 23 hours out of a day a person might think just as you are. Oh,,,, did I mention that just this last week she went to the 8th series of the National Open??? So you never can be quite sure, can you.

Actually, I have one dog inside and 2 outside. The 2 outside are in a VERY large fenced area that is their "kingdom" (its quite obvious they view it as such as well...) and have a very large "doggy condo" which keeps them dry, warm/cool and comfortable. All 3 are very well taken care of, very well behaved and VERY spoiled. They are outside because they are much too large to comfortably be housed indoors. Maybe I didnt understand your question but I think our outside dogs are just as much a part of our family (pack) and they know they are equally loved and tended to as the one inside. We actually spend more time outside playing in the yard than we do inside. Just because I have two large dogs that spend the majority of their time in my back yard doesnt mean I'm less of a person or that I'm abusing my beloved puppies!!

Because they are worthless useless individuals that aren't worthy to breath.

The Dream

I lay down bleeding, bruised, and sore - broken spirit, just like before.
Can't he see my pain, my fright? I want to play, and love - not fight.
I see his hand as it comes down, and as he speaks I can hear his frown.
I shrink down closer to the floor, but I know just what ís in store.
I whimper softly, though in vain. My punishment - a four foot chain.
Left outside for seven days. No food, no water, eyes that glaze.
I rest my eyes, close them tight, trying to forget my plight.
As I open them again, there is no grass, there is no chain.
I see your hand as it comes down, to pat my head, call me a clown.
You laugh and tell me how I snore, then you hug me, and pat me more.
"It was only a dream!" I think with a sigh, and thank the big man up in the sky.
The pain I endured, it led you to me, and FINALLY "I" am a part of a "WE".
My heart beats "I love you". I hope you can hear it. There ís not many out there that can mend a broken spirit.

Most people actually do not have any feelings for animals. Why they tie up animals and cage birdsI dont know. But I wish they didn't do it. Animals too need company. And if someone cannot take proper care of an animal better not bring it home at all.

That is a good question. I guess some people leave dogs outside because they either don't care or they don't want them to ruin their house.

If we knew the answer to that question, hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats alike wouldnt find themselves being euthanized.

Don't get discouraged.. we can all help, little by little, pup by pup!

I wonder the same thing, its cruel. They don't want to be bothered with a dog but they want the protection of a dog. I hate people like that!
