I have a safe cat collar for my cat and if she gets caught on something I realize she can break away but is their a weight requirement?? I have a 5 month old Singapura and she weighs 1.75 pounds so is she too light to cause the collar to open if she was in trouble or would she be fine? I tried searching this on the net but no luck - any idea?

Hi there again Jonela...most break-away collars are fine for all kittens/cats. However, the Singapura is a smaller breed of cat which remains small like kitten-sized for their entire lifetime, therefore you may need to consider finding a collar which is easier to break apart if there's the choices are available to you in Singapore. If you are concerned, consider waiting until she is over 3 pounds before collaring her.

We don't collar our indoor cats except when we take them into the back yard on a leash so they can see what the "big room" is like. We have had problems with the "break away" collars in the past so if you are confident that the cat won't ever get out, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would get an ID chip into the kitty in the event she does get out to easily identify her. All our cats are ID chipped and the one-time cost to register is $40.00 for the life-time of the pet. I think it was about $25 to get the chip inserted.

I have used those collars on all of my indoor/outdoor cats since they came on the market. I've never seen anything printed about a weight requirement. One way to keep your Kitten safe is to make sure you can easily slip two of your fingers between her neck and the collar. If she does get her collar caught on something she'll be able to get her head out of the collar.

She might be too light to break the collar but I would suggest keeping her in the house until she's big enough to defend herself anyway. In that, you will protect her from potential hanging as well as protential kittie bullies.
