I've had big dogs all my life (75 - 115lbs) and I've always fed them twice a day everyday (morning & night) for their first year. After that it's only once a day. You'll just have to figure out what time of the day they prefer to eat.... oh... and be sure to feed them a raw egg with their food once a week all their lives. It gives them an awesome shiney coat and they love it.

Somehow I don't think so ;)

A lab at 6 months will be at the peek of it's growth spike and will eat more at this age than at any other time in it's life.
An adult Lab will eat about 4 cups of a quality food a day, at 6 months the pup could need as much as half again what it will eat as an adult. The way to monitor is to watch the dogs condition. It is better to have a dog at that age to lean than it is to have it to fat. (fat rolly-polly puppy = dysplastic adult). When you can just barley distinguish the ribs is perfect. Do not try to add or reduce the dog weight to quicklly. +or- a 1/4 cup is the ideal ammount of a change.

Ask the Vet: I think 1 cup of dry food 3X a day but the dog may need more and some vitamins too

Welcome to owning a Lab! Labrador retrievers are VERY food motivated and will eat off counters, out of garbage cans/eat another dogs treats or rawhides and steal cat food as well lol. They will eat anything so anyone who owns a lab must take care they don't get over weight. Its always good to hear of someone rescuing a dog I always say, My labrador was skinny when I bought her, at three months her ribs were showing and I had got her from a breeder!(a very horride one I mind you). A female lab should weigh in at 60/70 pounds my girl is 71 or 72 right now I'm cutting out milk bones and fatty things right now as she has put on 1 or 2 pounds she normaly is 70.1. I reccomend feeding what the bag of food says I feed my dogs free choice and the food is always down, i've never been able to get them to eat at the time the dish is offered. They are fed food for over weight dogs she has maintained an ok weight with this and my other dog(a jack russell terrier is the perfect weight as well). For a dog around 60 pounds 4 1/2 cups of good quaility food should be enough daily. My lab will put her paws on the counter and try paw things far back down to eat, she will stick her head in teh fridge when you open it.... lol and watches you very closey when you eat, she will eat anything and a little while after I got her I realized All labs are genraly this way and get fat easily. Also for treats I'm not sure if you give them or not but if you do give only low fat treats or other higher fat treats infreqintly as I have been giving my lab and other dog peddigree breath busters lately around 3 a day and shes been sneaking some table scraps recinitly and already she has gained weight and I walk her everyday! She is also Very active with my toher dog running and wreasling all the the time in our yard but she gains weight very, very easily its shocking sometimes really. And for the cat food dogs really shouldnt have it its very high in protine(compare a good brand of dog food to a good brand of cat food the protine levels and fat also), puppies need more protine then adult dogs for growing but that doesnt mea you should feed them cat food it just means that if you were to feed an adult perfect weight dog puppy food it would put on weight quickly, so maybe try putting the cat food up high on a table or shelf somewhere or over a baby gate where only the cats can jump and go eat, the same with the little boxes my sister has a cupple of kitties and the person shes living with has a golden ret/lab X and they have to put up a baby gate in front of a spare room and put the cats food and litter pan in there it works great as long as your dog doesnt knock the gate over then your in truble.

I hope this has helped you out

Depends on the kind of food you are feeding

some food contain more fillers (corn, soy, by-products, etc) than other foods so the feeding requirement is more
other (better) foods use more digestable ingredients with more REAL meat (eg CHICKEN MEAL, or TURKEY MEAL, or LAMB MEAL is #1 on ingredient list) and have NO cheal fillers ... so in fact you feed less, and have less poops too

interestingly IAMS at one time was SUED and forced to change their lable becuase they were trying to make their food look better by giveing lower feeding suggestions... IAMS used to be a good food until Proctor and Gamble bought it out and dumbed the food down considerably

A 6 month old LAB should be on PUPPY or LARGE BREED PUPPY food...

if the pup is thin or fat.. you dont feed per the weight that the dog is.. but per the weight that the dog should be...

Go to store, flip over bag of puppy chow, look appropriate weight and age up, it will give you an idea. My 9month old is eating 2 cups twice a day for a total of 4 plus alot of treats since we are doing a lot of training. Otherwise she would be closer to 5/6 cups. It's important to monitor their weight. The bags give a guidline. A dogs metabolism and excercise level will probably warrant some adjustments.

Ours eats about 6 cups of dog food a day, so a fifty pound bag should last you about 3-4 month. It really depends on the exercise level, if he exercises you might want to feed him more. My dog is pretty good about stopping when he's full. But I've heard people say that theirs eat everything in one sitting.

Usually if you go to your local vet they can give you a spray which makes things taste terrible. It is commonly used for dogs who eat their own feces (which is also not good for dogs' digestive systems), but really can be applied to anything. Next time you take your dogs outside, watch them. If they start heading towards rocks, just spray the rocks and let them continue their behavior. I guarantee that in a very short amount of time they will no longer be eating rocks, but avoiding them.
