You shouldn't hit a dog to discipline it. They won't understand what the reason is behind getting hit and can become fearful and aggressive towards you. The best way to discipline any dog is to say "NO" in a firm voice and take the dog away from the situation, like possibly in a kennel. Dogs don't like to be alone, so they will learn that to avoid kenneling they will have to stop the behavior. Also make sure to treat and praise the dog when it does what you want it to do.

I have a female, 2 yrs old, I just adore her but she is extremely hard-headed.
I talk to my dog all the time, she knows what many words mean and she knows what NO means. I have used a rolled up newspaper once or twice on her when she was smaller but now I just hit it on my hand and fuss at her if she misbehaves. They really don't take much discipline.
Good Luck with your pup

Don't hit him! Scold him perhaps of wrong doings and MAJOR praise him when he does right. CONSISTANcy is the factor. IF you are trying to potty train him I found putting him in a small cage while you are away and immediatly take him outside when you get home.

You never hit an animal. It does not teach them anything positive. You need to go to a good animal training class at a local pet store.

roll a section of newspaper up - and pop his behind
the noise will scare him worse than the hit
and yell "NO"
pretty soon the No will have its effect without the paper
