i just adopted a puppy yesterday, and i am wondering what the best way to potty train him is?

i got him to pee on a newspaper once, but then he went on the floor a couple of times. i picked him up while he was going and placed him on the newspaper.

also, he's a yorkie/maltese mix. i heard yorkie's are kind of tough to train, so any suggestions would be nice!

ps - to all you smartasses, yes, i know you take him outside to pee. hahaha very funny. and btw - youre welcome for your 2 point sarcastic answer ahead of time.

to the serious people, thanks a bunch :)

easily themselves by Googling it? Especially the questions that are so blatantly obvious --- if my pet is sick, injured, I have no money---A VET???!!!! It's ridiculously so easy to search for nearly all the answers online and why trust some strangers when it comes to the life of your pet!? I wouldn't even if they meant the best of intentions--that's why there's a vet who studied years to fix what ails our pets. Geesh!

Sorry, I'm so disappointed at the lack of neurons people don't use. Oh...lemme restate that--WON'T use!!!

Anyone else? Would thoroughly like your two cents worth on the subject matter

I am currently living in China.
I am here as an English teacher.
I will be moving back to the U.S. in the summer of 2007.
PERHAPS A LIST OF PICTURES OF SPECIES THAT CAN LEGALLY BE IMPORTED?
I don't think it's an endangered species--it's very common here in China.

Just this past year, my two cats (13 and 14 yrs old) have started to snore noticeably. I was sitting watching TV one night and heard a strange noise... I muted the TV and listened... my cat was way in the other room and SNORING as loud as could be! They must have learned it from my dog (along with other habits)! haha

What kinds of habits do your kitties have?? My one cat will cup her paw over the top of a cabinet door, pull the door back and let it go, making a really "nice" pounding noise... OVER and OVER and OVER until she gets what she wants... or if there is company over, she'll jump up on the table, make a complete circle passing everyone, jumps down, repeats. Years and years of spoiling have made two ROTTEN puddy-tats! LOL

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/5049/4158/1600/IMAG0001.jpg
and i was wondering what i could get that would be an upgrade. thier bowl isnt in sight, i took it out of the hole, they kept throwing thier food out of the cage. i dont want to spend too much, and i dont know the durability of the ones with the plastic tubes. and wire cages are a no, they get stuck, they are small hamsters, and it needs to be easily explored by them, any ideas on what they would enjoy?

I have a female Chug (Chihuahua x Pug) with my male Chi-Chi (Chinese Crested x Chihuahua) who I want to breed! The girl is 1 year old and in heat NOW and the boy is 8 months old.
What is your comments on breeding my babies?
Should I breed them? If not - WHY NOT?!?!?!?!
If I do, HOW MUCH do I sell the puppies for? I need the money to repair my car (needs a new engine, cost $4,500)?

My Chug is named Luci-Mae and and Chi-Chi is named Jacob. I plan on selling the pups for a MINIMUM of $450 - I need all the money I can get!!

Would I be able to create a NEW breed of dog? What breed would my Chug x Chi-Chi be?

I need advice on how to breed. I have never bred anything but my (now dead) cats - Rose and Larry (started breeding 8 months each - both died at 5 years. Had many successful litters from Rose) so am NOT used to breeding dogs.

Thanks to everyone who comments - !!!

I bought a bunch of hay . The horses were eating it fine. The hay came off of 4 or 5 wagons. Farmer then used some preservative on there . I believe that this hay I am trying to feed now, is loaded with the presevative. I just tried to top dress it with molasses. If anyone has any ideas for me it sure would help . Farmer is willing to take the back but that is no easy chore as I have around 300 bales to haul back . Preservative used to make it dry faster in field.

Our dog destroys property at random, has chewed up (over time) a folding table leg. She destroyed a library book and has messed up 2 purses and other items of value. We cannot leave her home alone for 15 minutes without her finding something to break (sometimes). She constantly poos on the floor and is a royal pain in the butt to walk as he drags any and everyone across the yard... but the much older Beagle we have has gotten used to her. She's also really sweet besides all the things above. The family I live with is strongly against making her an "outside dog".

Do you think deliberate breeding by the pros is necessary to continue the purity of breeds, or should breeding be even more tightly regulated? How do you feel about fines for non-registered (Backyard) breeders who breed just for cash? Any informed opinions out there? My granddaughter is writing a paper for school about pet overpopulation. Thanks for your input.

This is my last chance to keep our cat, if I don't find a resolution for her soon, like within the next day, we're going to have to get rid of her.
We've had her for over a year and never had problems with her until we moved into our new house. Yes, we changed the litterbox and litter when we moved, but we keep it as clean as we can and they DO use it (she and our other cat). However, she's started peeing on the carpet (the brand-new installed-by-the-military wall-to-wall carpet!!) and we don't know why. Or how to make her stop. We've tried cleaning the litterbox more often. I tried Lysol. My husband actually STEAMCLEANED it today. And just a few minutes ago, we caught her peeing on the carpet AND the wall.
My husband says she HAS to go, unless I can figure out something and FAST.
How do I permanently get the smell out, and how do I keep her from doing it anymore?

Well a short story of what happen. My dog is about 3month's old.He has gotten pro-vo from being out in the yard.Well I can't seem to afford a vet at the moment.Well early this morning he was not eatting nor drinking anything. So I thought I should at least try and get some fluid's in his body.I bought a body of gaterade and spoon fed him.I just waited around and prayed for him.Well tonight he has gotten up and started eatting and drinking. He still seem's a bit weak. But he is eatting and drinking. My question is can a dog live with pro-vo?

She will be a year old next month and had been missing since friday, a neighbor returned her and her eyeball was out of socket. We have no idea what or who did it or what she went through, this worries me. We took her to the vet today and they kept her to do surgery to amputate the eye and sew her eyelid shut. Are her chances of pulling through the surgery good? and will she be different emotionally or anything? I dont know what to expect and I am scared. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you think dogs remember their dreams. Mine frantically chases something whilst she sleeps (all dogs do) but I wonder if they dream about people, and whether in their dreams they get scared or wake up hating the dream character as humans sometimes do. Its not all bones and food bowls in their life, could the dreams be a reason why dogs bite unexpectedly because that person was nasty in the dream. What do you think? Interesting remarks only please.

My maine coon kitten is docile and just an "angel kitten" and I'm wondering if the extroverted personality of the siamese might be overwhelming to him.

I have a chow chow and wanted his hair cut, the groomer decided to shave it bold. While there is snow on the ground the dog needs its fur to keep warm. Is it considered animal cruelty knowing that the dog needs its fur?
