I have both and prefer cats because they're much lower maintenance. However, in my family I have both a dog lover and cat lovers, so I think it really depends on the person.

I'm personally a dog lover, i have two dogs and i love them because they are always wanting to obey and seek my attention! But both depend on me for play and affection! My sister owns a cat, and it works for her because she works a 8 to 5 job, so the cat doesn't miss her extremely like a dog would, cats are more independent then dogs. So it all depends on the lifestyle that you have and the amount of time that you are willing to give to the animal!

This is a subjective question meaning that any one's opinion is valid. But in my opinion, dogs generally are better because they are loyal and stay that way, plus they don't have any nasty claws to scratch you. However, dogs require more time, mainly exercise, whereas cats don't really need to be taken out for walks. Dogs also eat more, which is sort of a bad thing financial wise, but they do eat left overs, so I guess that saves some money.

I have a pet dog at home and he's a Jack Russell Terrier. He always jumps onto my lap when I want him to, and he's playful too. We've had him for 4 years, and he still wags his tail and goes mad when I come home from school. Cats shed a lot of hair and usually hide somewhere like under a car or under a bed. They don't spend just about any time with you unless you force them too. So, I definitely prefer Dogs to Cats.

Cats are cleaner than dogs and more independent. They don't slobber on you and they don't suck up just because they can't help it. When your cat is affectionate, it really means something. On the other hand, you can't get a cat to run on a leash and you basically can't get them to do diddly squat that they don't feel like. I like both cats and dogs for different reasons, but I like cats better.

I like both, for different reasons.
If I had to choose one OR the other, I'd go with the dog.
The German Shepherd is better behaved and obedient, especially out in public but he's a BIT too big to hop up on the bed nights.

I used to have both and I really perfer a dog. It was difficult the read the cat, so I really didn't know what to expect from it. My dog was much easier to read and I much more affectionate. Plus he didn't smell.
